Had this sort of DIY wool blanket Hammock project on mind for some time now, on how to replace the many Nylon Hammocks in my stock to a woolly blanket style hammock without compromising for to much on weight, but rather reduce on bulk to carry at the same time.
So this is the 1st part of my DIY project to make my very own Woolly-Mammoth Loden Hammock.

This gonna be a longer video with multiple setup styles, making use of my 3x3m DIY canvas Tarp which is quite lightweight and is being used as a large Tarp over a DD-Hommock in the rain and as a “Anthill” shape Tarp-tent fashion setup on a quiet camping side too, which gives me many more options for easy overnight stay under different conditions.
Showing some very individual details not found on any modern standard Nylon tarp, that instead allows for a large amount of setup option with my DIY canvas tarp to be used.
Staying at the hidden and slightly forgotten Ilpola resort and Campside at the lake Kuitikkaanlahti not far from the Hämeen Ilvesreitti, Häme Lynx Trail but a nice treat for a change.
In between the setups like using classic Tarp and the Tarp-Tent Anthill style, I follow the "Poron Polku" Loppi trail, which going partswise together with the Häme Lynx Trail.
The material I'm using came from: Tschum canvas Bushcraft tents and stove... the maker of the famous and unique “Tschum 2P SOSWA Bushcraft tent”

Made my way through the woods to the last of the oldest remote grocery village shop in Finland about 3-4Km east of the lake Iso-Melkutin near the air field, for stocking up with food and good moods, sweets and a warm welcome on the spot, which is obviously guarded by a very special totem ghost of the woods spooking around on the fence with a big smile across his face ;-)
With a bit of a short review on why I'm still happy with my woolly DIY Rucksack and why I prefer it over modern kit.
Ended up at an impressive shelter hut next to the lake Iso-Melkutin with pristine clear water, lots of fire wood to spare too, a place to stay for some time.
Live just can't get any better.

Making your own wool thread for hand-knitting out of raw sheep or baby camel wool with one of this hand-Spindle about everywhere you go without an advanced classic Spinning wheel.
This is a three-piece travel hand spindle I made up 40 years ago, carved with a pocketknife out of a fresh Hazel stick, works pretty good and is easy to carry and store away in any pack.
For demonstration, I used some cosmetic cotton balls from a local drugstore for the video only.
For the once of you who like to make their own spindle, here some tips that come in handy, about the needed weight and design of a dedicated spindle in generally to select the right wood for the wanted size and thickness of the Yarn to be used later on:
A lightweight spindle, allowing for very fine and thin Yarn, since the slower spinning torque is quite low to prevent overspun of the lesser materials to be used. Hazel wood is perfect for that purpose during the lightweight properties, still the weight could be raised up by adding glass or a stone bead to it too.
A heavier weight spindle allowing for thicker Yarn for a start, since the faster spinning torque per rotation allowing for more force on to the wool without that backward or return spin of the spindle itself and therefore can cope with more hair or wool in one go to be securely trapped during a full rotation. Beech or Oak wood would be more suitable for this sort of Yarn to achieve.
A “Loden Wetterfleck” what the hell ist that?
As mentioned before, for you guys who never heard about the woolly German Loden Wetterfleck as yet, here a quick and unconventionally explanation what I'm carry in my pack as a universal item that coming in very handy at times and what it is used for in the outdoors, originated and still in use by many Bavarian folks, hunters, as a outdoor coat and harsh weather protection... and much more...
By the way, all the other woolly gear you see in my videos are mostly from Hubertus Loden as well, some of the kit is DIY made, but Material is bought from Hubertus too.

Slowly coming along, stitching this Dyneema D-75 Bowstring strands in to the Loden wool cloth for reinforcing it to take my weight and making it more ware resistant during use too.
So after about a 1/3 of the needed stitching is done, feeding the Dyneema strands through the Loden Wool I had to give it a try-out, putting my new DIY Hammock in to a quick Hangout test setup in the local park to see how it's working and showing you the progress of this wacky project and how I'm getting along with it.

For gathered-end hammocks, the recommended starting point is 83% of the hammock length for gathered-end hammocks.

Yeah, since the year is almost passed by, heading in to the Hogswatch night winter festival, very similar to what is known as Xmas this day's, well the season for freezing temperatures, snow, hot drinks and fat foot, followed by lots of sweets and a big hangover to call it the year well ticked off. The season for sending a small gift to a good friend to cheer him up.
So this is a quick small project of making a Lapland Sami style Coffee and Sugar bag to complete the woolly kit in the pack.
But instead of making this bag out of Reindeer leather as the classic Sami bag would be, I'm making this twin out of very tight and tough wool Loden like the Rucksack to match.
Happy Hogswatch to my mate Andy in Gloucester ;-)

Latest DIY project to keep my trousers up on the trail.
Working on this little project for some time now, in on-and-off mode, since there is no rush to finish it in a hurry.
But because winter is almost gone now and spring lurking around the corner, it's once again time to get ready for the next trip to come.

Right, after weeks of endless stitching about 200m of Dyneema D-75 Bowstring strands in to the wool Loden cloth, I finally came to an end, finished it off.
Packing and wrapping everything together once again and hitting the under grow of a small nearby forest to try out my newly created project under real condition as I would face on a longer trip.
Besides, winter is approaching fast now, with temperatures on +1° over the daytime and dropping below 0° to -2° at night at the beginning of December at my location.
So what else could be better than being wrapped up and layered with 100% wool all around for best possible comfort.
Giving a quick overview of a woolly Loden hunting trousers, made exactly for this sort of weather condition, too. This trousers are made by Paul&Klosterhuise and a quick glimpse on my Icelandic pullover sweater.
Lastly for a treat I'm doing some quick fry up Turkey lunch with burned onions on my Titanium DIY Hobo stove as a treat for myself.
