Today was another hard day on the homestead. We lost 3 more chickens last night. Bring our total loss up to 9. GUYS we haven't even gotten any eggs from them yet! I am so very discouraged and I never thought that raising chickens would be THIS hard. I'm not even sure anymore if it's something we can pursue long term. I am worn out, discouraged, depressed and exhausted, but I am also gosh dang determined to make my dreams a reality. You know what, hawks don't eat tomatoes. Maybe I'll focus on that for a while.
I have had a Craigslist email alert setup for a few months for any hybrid vehicle that pops up in my price range. It has been slim pickings so far with a couple that have slipped through my fingers. This one was meant to be, I didn't have to drive across the metroplex to get it and the seller was available at the same time I was. Subscribe and hit the notification bell to see the upcoming videos I will post on the issues I find while getting this car back on the road.
Also in this video: The pleasure of dealing with an honest seller, something we often don't find on Craigslist. I try to be as honest as possible when acting as a seller on any platform and appreciate when I see the same in someone else.

This was a fun Saturday for us. We cleaned up the garden after a big storm came through. Christopher worked on the windmill tower some more. Then we got to demo the tub in our master bath because we were able to find one for a good price on craigslist.

Worked up a proof of concept water chiller that will make ice for the purpose of cooling a house later. Every pound of water can store 1 btu of energy for every degree Fahrenheit of temperature change, except when changing phases from water to ice it is 144 btu! This means your average 55 gallon drum could store about 5 ton hours worth of cooling energy. I’d say that’s pretty dense for such an inexpensive medium!
I want to harness this amazing ability to store energy so that the air conditioning compressor runs when power is inexpensive, such as at night when Griddy wholesale rates are under 2 cents per kilowatt hour or when the sun is shining on solar panels.
Follow me along this journey as I work beyond this proof of concept into something more usable.

SkyRC B6 AC Charger I am using for this test: https://amzn.to/2waVmZW
100 amp load tester: https://amzn.to/2waVmZW
I've checked the voltage, I've checked the resistance, I've checked Check Engine Light codes, but I believe this load test is the best way to verify which batteries in a high voltage hybrid battery pack are bad and need to be replaced. If you want to balance a pack it seems load testing is required to make sure all of the batteries/cells act in concert with one another.
Let me know how your high voltage pack testing has gone, does load testing work for you? What equipment do you use? I know I have a lot to learn from the community out there.

This is a quick video of me replacing the front passenger quarter window in a recently acquired Suzuki SX4 Sport. From what I understand most quarter windows are glued in just like this. Check out my blog entry for other repairs I performed on this car and what tools/supplies I utilized for fixing this window.
