Today the Complex Games Apologist speaks to the challenges and opportunities of worldbuilding in Dungeons & Dragons Worlds where Magic is a *known* quantity. The world, your character, and many people in the world have heard of these spells! Villains use them too, and have defenses against them! What a novel idea! When will the exclamation points END?!
(The above paragraph was inspired by a recent encounter with a 'grammar fanatic' Somewhere another of their number is sweating bullets!)

Here's my absurd attempt at Zoomer Aesthetics! I hear I have to make youtube #shorts to achieve more channel reach.
I also hear from my wife that this video "is the ugliest thing ever"
which, I mean, is certainly a point of view. I may not be the right person to try putting on Gen Z pants...but it's a one minute long video in a format that has achieved success for jokes, right?
anyway let me know what y'all think, not so much of TikTok length which is a struggle for me, but portrait mode aspect ratio which I may do more of as it seems to pop to fullscreen much more readily on mobile, which could allow some really interesting character sheet videos and lore videos with maps and text and stuff that is often illegible for small screen users.

#RPGaDAY 2016 Day 18: Innovation
I make no secret of my preference for live play. Indeed, I think that live play is the only medium in which the hobby will grow rather than contract. Live play is where the hobby adapts to new people and innovates new forms. The White Wolf Games, Paranoia, Fiasco, etc...not all are my cup of tea, but they all depend on the face-to-face dimension and are fueled by it.
But how can we grease that wheel?

#RPGaDAY Day 28: Surprisingly Unread.
Sometimes, I feel like I may be the only person in my age cohort that reads anymore. And especially, reads anything that they sought out for themselves.
More to the point, however, are the lost talismans of camera, tone, and voice that add up to Genre. What do do? Carry on, my wayward son/daughters(s).

There's something the CGA don't understand?
Just...people. Just certain things those folks tend to say.
But I do have my own way!

In Dungeons And Dragons Roleplaying game (and other High Fantasy, Exploration-Based, Challenge-focused, Combat-Centric Tabletop RPGs)...Sometimes there are vertical elements "Levels" in dungeons. Stairs have been the traditional first-resort choice for transitioning between these levels, but new thinking is upsetting the balance and moving to the front a different kind of vertical transition between floors: ELEVATORS and RAMPS.
This new push for elevators and ramps is being done in the name of 'inclusive dungeon design,' to give characters with mobility impairments and chair users the opportunity to explore the dungeon without depending on abled companions. and some people are very proud that they're going that route. Others complain about how this might be 'anachronistic' or 'unrealistic.'' Well, I've got news for ya: Elevators have been around a long, long time in D&D. They're just fine. but they have a few quirks, which are worth exploring in depth!

There is a central value to RPGs that goes too often overlooked. RPGs are place where we can remind our conscience what it feels like to confront villainy. As a game master we are called upon not only to understand villainy, but to role-play the villain...not merely 'act the part.'
Like authors we can speak with some experience within our field of expertise. Writers know how to write. GMs known how to role-play villains.
