But, why is Peter Pan portrayed by a girl on stage plays?

Well, it’s a mixture of a producer’s decision and British Law.

You see, Broadway Producer Charles Frohman suggested that our green tights wearer should be played by a woman because casting a boy might affect the children in the ensemble cast. The children “would have to be scaled down in proportion.”

Also, English law dictates that minors, under the age of 14, couldn’t work after 9. P.M.
So, what do you do, when you have a cast of a bunch of fifteen-year-olds or older trying to play children and you can’t cast a man because Peter Pan is supposed to be older and not look like a man, but a boy? Well, you probably understand the situation.
