Midnight Express - The Saw Doctors (Guitar Vocal Cover)
From the album "All the Way from Tuam", this is a homesickness lament which was written by Davy Carton from the band when he was 17. I used to busk it when I wasn't much older than that. I don't know why he called it Midnight Express, though the film of the same name does ostensibly cover homesickness it's bleak! ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GslIfHrg2Vo
I fancied doing something a little different today. Often I tell people that my first instrument is the piano, but actually the first thing I learned to play was the recorder. Instead of covering some big hit, I thought I'd play this piece written by a friend of mine and performed by a band I once played with live a couple of times.

A version of We Are the World with remastered audio based on a capture from the audio desktop. I wanted to get audio closer to what it really can sound like. The mix has limitations because that many voices are hard to mix without proper grouping on the console. The good news is that an improved grouping feature is available for future shows, so us sound engineers should start to improve on balancing bigger mixes.
Mostly though the result is quite listenable.
Originally a charity single by USA for Africa, here are some of our WorldJam stars performing this song *live* with Jamulus and Zoom. No cheating, overdubbing or anything except just remastering the audio.

Classic track from back in 1991 by James, their first big hit and possibly the best early 90s single to not make number one. Amazingly this used to play in clubs and people would sit down on the dance floor.
Thanks to Tip for the suggestion. Each part recorded live (instrument plus vocal) in two or three takes, to keep some spontaneity. Video synced and edited with Adobe Premiere Elements 11.

An old synth track a wrote a while ago, reworked and remixed on G Stomper, a fun Android tablet based music sequencer / drum machine.
The screens in the video are taken from a live playback via the sequencer, showing different views of the GStomper program. Everything is editable, including synth sounds, effects, sequences and drum samples. It's a very capable tool.

Back in the early 90s I was in a band with the singer in this video. Recently, I suggested he record a vocal take with my backing track on his phone and send just the voice back. This is the result.
My Dad also features on keyboard and strings, with me on guitar, uke, bass, shaker and drum programming + background vocals.

Theme to the film programme. When I originally learned it a while back I had Film '85 on my sheet music - though it is currently the theme to Film 2010. This was written by Billy Taylor and Dick Dallas. The great jazzman wrote it for his daughter. This piece also has a gospel / spiritual feel to it, check out the version originally sung by Nina Simone.
One of the tunes I regularly play to warm up, though I'm a bit out of practice.
