Jussi Björling's first recording - TORNA A SURRIENTO [Swe] - 1929
This is the first recording with Jussi Björling as a tenor ever published. It was recorded on Dec. 18, 1929 in Stockholm with Nils Grevillius "and his orchestra" (probably members of the orchestra of the Royal Swedish Opera House). On Sep. 4, 1929, Björling had recorded Geehl's "For you alone" and Leoncavallo's "Mattinata", but these recordings were never issued.

This is a transfer of a Swedish 78rpm HMV, catalogue number X 7536

The song, "Torna a Surriento" is sung in Swedish and has a completely different text. In Swedish, it is turned into a love song with no reference to Sorrento. You will hear Björling repeatedly sing the phrase "Jag älskar dig" which means "I love you".
