Test of the Xbox360 HD-DVD Player to see if it scratches disc like the Xbox360 main drive. The disc used was an old AOL4.0 CD-ROM, not a DVD or HD-DVD. The player was connected to a PC running Linux, not to an Xbox360.
Results: The CD-ROM was not scratched, scary noise, similar to that of the Xbox360 disc scratching, however did emerge on rotating the drive . The drive stopped on rotation, but would continue normally after that.
Flaws in the test: The CD-ROM read speed never goes beyond 1 MiB/s, so the rotation is likely not going at full speed. Might have been caused by the age of the CD-ROM and pre-existing smaller scratches.
