We at the Swiss Home love to give homemade presents. Advent every year is frantic with ideas and a lot of baking. We bake tons of different biscuits to give away as presents.
And this year was no exception. We baked 4 different varieties. I will be sharing 2 of them in this part 1 of the video. Part 2 follows.
Its fun and easy to bake with your little helpers at home.

Recipe: Orange Biscuits.
Biscuits:
Juice and rind of one orange
200 g of butter
300 g of soft brown sugar
250 ml of milk ( optional)
1 tsp. bicarb
2 tsp. of baking powder
675 g of sifted flour
Icing:
Juice and rind of 1 orange
250 g of icing sugar
Water as needed to mix.
Preheat the oven to 190 centigrade
Cream together the butter and brown sugar. Mix in the orange juice and rind. Mix well. Sift together the flour, bicarb and baking powder and add to the butter mixture. Mix thoroughly and rest the dough for about 30 min.
Roll into 6mm thickness, cut the biscuits and place on a lined baking tray about 3 cms apart.
Bake for 10- 12 min or until golden brown.
Remove from oven and cool before icing.
For the icing:
Mix all the icing ingredients until smooth. Add water as needed. Cover each biscuit with a little icing and allow to set.
Recipe for Coconut /Oat Biscuits
Ingredients:
150g of soft butter
2 tbsp. golden syrup or molasses
75 g demerara sugar or any unrefined sugar
100 g rolled oats
50 g of dessicated coconut
75g wholemeal flour
2 tsp. baking powder
Preheat the oven to 180C
Lightly grease two baking trays and set aside.
Mix butter with the sugars until soft.
Mix together the oats, coconut, flour and baking powder into the butter mixture.
Rest the mixture for about 15 minutes so that the oats can set in and its easier to form the shapes.
Take teaspoons of mixture and roll them into balls.
Flatten then slightly and place them 2 inches apart on the prepared baking tray.
Bake for 10- 15 minutes until golden brown.
Cool slightly on the try before cooling on the wire rack carefully.

Hello friends and viewers,
During the difficult times of shortages, it may be worthwhile to go foraging. And we have done it now, to get some greens in our diet.
Easy recipe how to make Wild Garlic Pesto.
Ingredients:
50 gm of wild garlic leaves- washed and dried
50 gm of roasted cashewnuts
Juice of 1/2 lemon
2-3 cloves of garlic
1-2 tsp of salt.
100 ml of olive oil.
Mix all in a food processor and blitz for a couple of minutes. ( I realised that it was so quick with the food processor than the blender I used last year)
Store in sterilized bottles in the refrigerator.

RECIPE FOR RHUBARB – GINGER JAM
INGREDIENTS:
1 Kg Rhubarber chopped into small cubes
750 gm of sugar ( you can also use Moscavado sugar)
Grated peel of a lemon
1 tablespoon of lemon juice
75 g of chopped candied ginger
METHOD:
Mix all the ingredients in a heavy bottom pot and cook under moderate heat stirring constantly for about 15 minutes.
When the Rhubarb is cooked to a mushy consistency it will start thickening.
HOW TO TEST IF ITS READY FOR BOTTLING?
Add a few drops to a plate and tilt the plate slightly. If the jam flows then its not yet ready.
Repeat the process at intervals till the jam stops flowing. Now its ready for bottling.
Bottling
Switch off the heat. And set all the sterilised jars on a tea towel.
This will help in preventing the jam jars from cracking while filling the hot jam.
Fill the jars to the brim and close the lid tightly. Turn the jars upside down on the tea towel for about 10 min.
Turn them back with the lid facing up. This helps in creating a vacuum which will preserve the jam for long.
This jam preserves well up to 12 months. I must admit from my experience, if the jam is made well under sterile conditions it keeps for more than a year.
I still have a small jar unopened in my cellar for more than a year.

I will be tackling a long overdue family minimalist closet and bathroom organization all on an extremely low budget.
We were in India during the month of October and many of the infant and baby stuff was still lurking in our walk in closet. I was successful in selling some and donating all the rest away.
We were good at purging the unwanted stuff we had accumulated over the years.
We were on a tight budget so I didn't go overboard in buying lot of organizers as we are so shortly there and this worked for us.
I just organizers worth less than 1000 Rs. Many of them I just re- purposed and reused.
One needn't just buy too much to have a functional closet. I also made money out of what I sold to balance out the expenditure.
Purged and organized the bathroom sink, vanity and under the sink area very successfully.
I got some low budge storage basket organizers from some local supermarkets and carried some unused fold able organizers from Switzerland. These fold able organizers were from IKEA. All in all I could organize everything on a very low budget.
I apologize for the shaking video shooting and some bad lighting in between.

Hello friends and viewers,
We will be making 10 Sea buck thorn berry recipes in this video. Sea buck-thorn berries are rich in Vitamin C and other anti oxidants. I have tried to make the most of these berries this year and tried to preserve them in the most natural form with most of my recipes.
The best time to harvest Sea Buck-thorn berries is by mid of September till the first frost sets in, usually around mid of October.
Last year I posted a Jam recipe video and I am just recapping on that too.

Horsetail has many medicinal properties and can also be used on plants as a fungicide and a feed.
For making this fungicide,
150 gm of chopped horsetail
1 large onion
1 bulb of garlic
1 tblsp of oil
1 liter of water
Chop all the herbs, and onions and garlic.
Boil 1 liter of water and add all the chopped ingredients with the oil.
Cook on low flame for 15 minutes.
Filter, cool and store in glass jar.
For using as fungicide
1 part of the infusion diluted with 5 parts of water.
I encourage you all to also start growing what ever you can in your little space. Its the first step to independence.

Yet our Organic garden has weathered those conditions and has unexpectedly produced some exotic vegetables to harvest. This is mainly due to our green house. The sub-tropical climate in the green house has created the right atmosphere for some of our exotic vegetables and that has been very productive so far.
