In this episode, Eric plays solo. Don't worry because Eric picked a personal favorite of his. What game? Phoenix for the Atari 2600.
Released in arcades by Centuri in the US in 1980, and by Atari for the 2600 and 800 in 1982. The game is in the vein of Taito's Space Invaders. You control a ship in a fixed environment blasting away mutant Phoenix birds that are bent on the destruction of the world. As you progress, you discover that they are not doing so on their own will, but that of the control of an evil alien seeking world domination.
You fight through 4 increasingly difficult waves of Phoenix until you face the final boss, the Alien Mothership. Yes, you read that right...a boss fight on the Atari 2600!
