Interview with Alex van der Sande and Fabian Vogelsteller of Mist at DEVCON1 in London
The web of documents as abstractly conceived by Tim Berners Lee needed a browser for users to explore the content of these documents. Similarly, the Ethereum dev team is working on a ‘DApp browser’ to explore the web of smart contracts running on the Ethereum blockchain.
Here, I interview Alex van der Sande and Fabian Vogelsteller who are lead developers of Mist, the Ethereum Dapp browser. At the Devcon, they demoed an early version of the browser with wallet functionality, ability to upload and see contracts on Ethereum. They used this early version to create a company running purely on the blockchain. This was a very impressive demo, and the videos for the demo shall be uploaded by the Ethereum Dev team.
Our interview covers themes such as:
The vision behind mist, and why Ethereum needs a Dapp browser.
The difference between this early release and the full blown browser.
Challenges in building the browser.
Next steps.
Check this video in order to gain an appreciation of how users will interact with smart contracts in the future.
