Prof. Francesco Battaglia - (In Italian) One of 100 Italian Scientists Who Reject Climate Emergency
Prof. Battaglia is a CLINTEL signatory and one of the 100 Italian scientists who originally petitioned the Italian government to say there is no climate emergency. Our press release on their petition: Italian Scientists Reject Global Warming Hysteria while Canadian Susta. https://tinyurl.com/sfhkte3 ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ekWkXdr3vRE
People have been noticing that today's media seems to make every story into a climate crisis, no matter how innocuous, and though the media claim to stand for freedom of speech, devoted to accuracy and the truth, they never seem to publish any dissenting views on climate change at all. If anything, they mock anyone who dares even show a hint of interest in a rational, dissenting view. A recent case is that of a story in the "Daily Skeptic" which related that 1,200 scientists and scholars dispute the claim of a climate emergency. The think tank in question is CLINTEL - the climate intelligence organization based in The Netherlands. An Alberta mayor innocently retweeted the story with the two words "Interesting Article" only to find himself embroiled in a media flare-up, claiming he was supporting denialist, misinformation, forcing him to backtrack. Of most interest to Friends of Science, is that the media managed to smear the mayor for his retweet and to denounce the Daily Skeptic a paper 'that is disinformation clickbait,' but they never interviewed anyone from CLINTEL! Michelle Stirling, Communications Manager for Friends of Science Society, explores journalistic ethics, as written, versus journos in action. She discusses a recent survey done in Canada by a collection of journalist groups, which claimed to show that scientists, journalists and the public want climate change covered as a crisis... but Prof. Emeritus DK Johnson of University of Victoria, a professor of logic and philosophy, shows that the survey was fundamentally flawed in that the journalists made no effort to discover whether there really is a climate crisis or not. Ecojustice has taken the Ontario government to court on behalf of a group of youth #GENClimateAction kids. In this, Part 3, we assess the climate claims made in court documents, showing that they are based on outdated science, are misleading or disputed. We show that Ontario's existing Green Energy Act violates Section 15 of the Charter by imposing crippling costs on pensioners. We show that GHG reduction targets are impossible to meet due to mass immigration policies. And we show that while there is warming occurring this does not explain the cause. Ontario is not driving climate change and children should not be exploited for commercial purposes, such as the school wide activist program where Ecojustice's executive director was a board member. This would appear to be an unstated Conflict of Interest. The power point will be posted on our blog for your review. Throughout scientific history, people have searched, 'in the dark' for answers. Many times, people have 'found the answer' and then science and public policy continued on that premise, like a flashlight, solely focussed on a single theory. That narrow focus, that simplistic answer, is attractive to the general public who don't like uncertainty or complex discussions about scientific topics. Many times, compelling analogies have been developed that inspired people to take up a cause and follow a charismatic leader. Indeed, throughout time, from kings and their necromancers to peasants and their Tarot Cards, people have longed to know what the future holds. "The Answer" feels right, until you turn the beam of the flashlight to the broader picture. Once you see more of the complexity of a situation, "The Answer" is no longer adequate to explain the complex, chaotic forces at work in the world of climate climate. This broader view is liberating. You are no longer in the dark. You can see clearly now. This broader view helps us understand that there are many things beyond our control; that the alleged "Climate Emergency" is over and the good news is - We DO Have Time.

On Sept 25, Max Fawcett, former editor of Alberta Oil Magazine wrote an article in Jen Gerson’s new online publication called “The Line” wherein he mocked Premier Kenney for having said that there’s a rising global market for oil, saying that the people in India are trying to move from burning dung to having grid scale power – and that within the next 15 years, they won’t be driving Teslas – and to think otherwise is to be disconnected from reality. The evidence from the IEA shows that Premier Kenney is right, and climate activists are wrong. EVs need power generation - LOTS of it. Even Quebec, with vast hydro resources, could not support an all EV policy. India, with 1.3 billion people, many of whom lack basic power and pumped water/sanitation services, faces hours and days of power blackouts as it is. Even Canada's present EV policy does not have enough power generation to meet the needs of the present EV policy. So what's the game with climate targets that can't be met? Looks like the endgame is a global carbon trading LAW - and that would be a road to ruin.

In advance of #COP27, Naomi Klein hosted a webinar on "Egypt's Carceral Climate Summit" along with Bill McKibben of 350.org and some other colleagues. In the webinar, Klein and McKibben tried to tie together political freedom, human rights, and climate change. They advocated for climate youth who would be attending COP27 in Egypt, to do public protests on behalf of people jailed during or after the Arab Spring, which Klein framed as a pro-democracy event. Klein wrote a long piece for The Intercept, which she referred to in her presentation, claiming that having a climate conference in Egypt is a 'moral failing.' In this detailed review, Michelle Stirling, Communications Manager for Friends of Science Society, explains that according to research by NECSI - New England Complex Systems Institute - the "Arab Spring" was actually driven by a huge spike in world food prices. Thus the true 'moral failing' is US climate policies on food-to-fuel ethanol which drove millions of people into poverty and hunger, sparking civil unrest around the world. The issue was and is exacerbated in the Middle East North Africa region (MENA) where youth unemployment is sky high and many people work in the 'informal' economy - with no job security or pensions. However, Egypt has many regional and domestic challenges to address - so their laws and policies are different than those in Western nations. In particular, Michelle warns youth climate activists to be careful to follow the law in Egypt as the consequences of protesting without a permit can be severe. The new 'coal' for climate activists is natural gas, and Egypt happens to be a key supplier of natural gas to the world - a world which desperately needs this supply. Michelle points out that climate activists and climate-obsessed nations are really just modern day colonialists, using climate policies and climate finance as the levers of domination.

Dutch filmmaker Marijn Poels had won many awards for his 50-some films made in poverty and conflict countries, but when he touched the topic of climate change and renewable energy policies, his formerly adoring media network dropped him – and many groups tried to silence and demonize him. But he heard a quote that inspired him “If your voice had no power, they would not try to silence you.” That gives him the courage to press on. His objective? To bring left and right together to share their strengths.

On June 23, 2023, Justice Canada released its Action Plan for implementing the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP). However, there seem to be conflicting views on how this complex matter will be implemented in Canadian society, even within the Indigenous community. David Suzuki Foundation is promoting a view that we should plant reconciliation forests, give 'land back' sovereignty, and employ young people as land guardians, water guardians and fire keepers. Meanwhile, policy analyst Melissa Mbarki writes that First Nations was to develop energy and resource options, but the federal climate plan is in the way, and doesn't comply with UNDRIP. Some of these issues revolve around compensation; Thomas Flanagan has written a report on that for the Fraser Institute. Meanwhile, the Canadian Association of Physicians for the Environment (CAPE) has been denouncing grassroots Indigenous groups promoting energy projects like Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) as being proxies for industry. It turns out that CAPE was funded for $495,000 from the McConnell Foundation in 2022 for climate activism. Ever since then CAPE has been attacking LNG projects. An article in the Hill Times by two CAPE associates denounced Indigenous grassroots pro-LNG energy groups. It turns out that McConnell Foundation contributed $10,000,000 to a Blackrock Global Renewables Fund II in 2017 - so who is the proxy here? Looks like the 'pot is calling the kettle black.' The federal Justice department's UNDRIP Action Plan calls for all laws in Canada to be aligned with UNDRIP - yet few Canadians are even aware of this, let alone the potential sea change in our economy and democracy. This video raises these matters for public review. Find out more about Friends of Science: Providing Insight into Climate Change. http://www.friendsofscience.org/

Greta Thunberg is about to release "The Climate Book", which features a cover of cold blue stripes leading up to a series of hot red stripes - suggesting dangerous global warming. But if you look at present warming in the context of history, you will see that climate is cyclical, going from warm to cold periods and back again, in uneven patterns over time. The Little Ice Age that preceded our present warm period was deadly for many people - featuring very erratic weather, long-term rain cycles over periods of months and years, resulting in crops being washed out completely, people being unable to dry hay for livestock, leading to famines and social chaos. By contrast, the Medieval Warm Period (or Medieval Optimum) prior to the LIA was a time of abundant crops and stable weather conditions, meaning there was the time and energy to build castles and churches. We hope to bring some calm and common sense to the climate debate by helping people understand that climate is cyclical. Remember, if you feel afraid of climate change, you can change your mind, and find out what's really going on! Please like, subscribe and share. Canada's oil sands are claimed to be large emitters and are now subject to a 'climate test' - but when it comes to saving the planet, keeping the Marshall Islands from drowning by sea level rise, and Montreal safe from climate change due to pipelines... the truth is stranger than fiction. Marshall Islands host the third largest marine fleet in the world; Montreal ships in oil to its refineries by marine tanker from more than 7,000 km distance. Just 16 big ships using marine diesel (heavy with sulfur) put out the same pollution, not just GHGs, as all the cars on the planet. Are Alberta's oil sands really the problem?
