This is episode five in the Polysix restoration series. In this episode, I diagnose the no-sound issue I discovered at the end of episode 4, diagnose and fix the filter resonance, calibrate the filters, envelopes, oscillators and effects, then add the special noise-reducing grounding circuitry. Lastly I test it and button up the case!
The very first synthesizer I ever bought, back in 1987, was a Korg Polysix. These venerable synths have a monster sound, but time is not kind to their inner electronics. In this video series, I will take a nonfunctional Polysix with severe internal damage and make it better than new, bringing modern capabilities, MIDI, and better quality sound while retaining what makes the PolySix so special! Join me on this restoration journey.

I love these Dyna Beads - I've been using them for years now. Instead of wheel weights to balance your tires, these beads sling around inside the tire, dynamically balancing it as it spins. The result is a smooth ride, no tire cupping, and long life.
Putting the beads into the tire through the valve stem is a bit of a chore however, involving vibrating the installation tube to get them to flow into the tire. On bikes with 90 degree valve stems, this is especially difficult. I discovered a faster, better way of doing it however: with air!

The layout and configuration of my studio has taken years to get right. It's just about perfect now: Quick and simple, I can play and record every instrument without plugging or patching, and it's flexible enough to do pretty much anything I could imagine. Freeing yourself from having to rewire your studio every time you want to record something different promotes creativity and productivity!
I show my studio setup, explaining how and why I set it up the way I did, and showing the benefits of the routing and signal patch choices that I've made.
Looking to make your home studio into a productivity and creative powerhouse? I've got lots of ideas to share!
