Colombo's “Development” neglects resettled Eezham Tamils
A village with 47 houses constructed through the Indian Housing Scheme was provided to war-widows and female-headed families in 2010. The families complain that nothing else than housing and electricity was provided to them to enable them to look after themselves. Potable water is a major problem. Likewise the entire village, especially the school-going children, suffer during the rainy season due to the lack of proper road infrastructure. Even the houses are full of leaks during the rainy season and the wooden door and window frames have rotten off. While the Sinhala villages being constructed to the occupying Sinhalese are full of modern facilities and livelihood projects, the villagers from Amaithipuram (Peace village) have not heard of any such initiative reaching their village.
