The Cape Peninsula has sidewalk flower markets (2:48). Groote Schuur has Dutch architecture and beautiful botanical gardens. The exotic Protea flower is shown (3:02-3:33). Devil’s Peak has the Cecil John Rhodes Memorial, with its lions and Energy statue (3:35-3:55). The first human heart transplant was at Groote Schuur Hospital (3:56-4:12). Constantia, home of first Governor Simon van der Stel, has famous vineyards (4:13-4:45). The Silver Leaf Tree is unique to Cape Peninsula (4:46-5:00). The aerial cableway take riders to Table Mountain with its tablecloth-like mist at the peak (5:01-5:32). The Twelve Apostles mountain peaks are shown (5:34-5:45). The New Year’s Day parade is celebrated by Africans with white face paint singing and dancing (5:46-6:18). The Blue Train travels past (6:19-6:40). The diamond “Big Hole” is at Kimberly. German Shepherds train at De Beers kennels, jumping through hoops, through fire, over a 10’ wall, and learn to attack intruders (7:26-8:03). The headgear tops the diamond shaft with mine cars full of kimberlite. The washing process traps diamonds; a large pile of unsorted rough diamonds is shown (8:05-8:52). The Johannesburg 1886 gold reef is shown (8:53-9:12). Pedestrians cross busy streets. Rochdale double-decker busses pass (9:13-10:15). The bullion becomes molten at the Rand Refinery; liquid gold shown is .99% pure. Gold bars are stacked (10:16-11:40). Traditional tribal dancers perform an initiation dance. Others play xylophones to a high-kicking dance (11:45-12:33). Pretoria has a bronze statue of Paul Kruger in Church Square. (12:35-13:09). Purple Jacaranda trees cover the city (13:30-13:50). The Voortrekker Monument has a wagon laager wall. A mural frieze portrays the events (13:52-14:21). The Iscor headquarters is shown (14:22-14:42). Bales of wool cargo is loaded by electric crane into the African Enterprise at Durban (14:48-15:25). People play in a large fountain swimming pool (15:42). Kaffir and Flamboyant (Flame) Trees are in bloom (15:58-16:10). 1960s Wolseley 1000 cars are parked (16:16). Zulu women, one with a sleeping child on her back, board a bus. A Zulu rickshaw moves down the street; the man’s ornate outfit is shown up-close (16:31-17:08). Topless Zulu women sit stringing beads, grind corn with a stone, and a baby wears a beaded necklace (17:09-17:40). The beaded women sing and dance in Zululand (17:41-18:13). Mtubatuba grows sugar cane, shown blowing in the wind and being cut down (18:20-18:33). White rhinos, elephants, zebras, antelopes such as impala, the nearly extinct roan, sable, greater kudu, and blue wildebeest are shown up-close at Kruger National Park (18:36-20:25). African buffalo drink at a watering hole, as does a bull giraffe who spreads forward to do so (20:27-20:47). Hippos swim in the Crocodile River (20:48-21:00). A pride of lions relax and a herd of elephants are shown (21:03-21:40).
