I'm experimenting with the gameplay of Ovus Nova. Creating a game that feels absolutely amazing is just a matter of constant improvements. Iteration after iteration, until the gameplay is absolutely perfect.
In this dev log I try to give the player more control over his units. Instead of moving around randomly, the player can now send the units in different directions. This way you interact with the game a lot more and it feels like you're a lot more in control of what's happening on the screen.
Ovus Nova is supposed to be a real time strategy game, not a clicker. That's why I'll have to do some more game design and work on the gameplay a little more. It needs to be better. No, it needs to be perfect!

Making games is risky. The likelihood to fail is huge and the chance to succeed diminishingly small. Nobody said game development was easy...
The three biggest things that can go wrong are:
- You don't manage to finish your game.
- You fail to market your game and nobody knows it exists.
- Your game stinks and nobody wants to play it.
If you overcome all three of those challenges and master them gracefully, you'll make a successful game.
In this video I have 15 awesome game dev tips for you that'll help you to pull it off and keep your risks to a minimum.
Don't put all of that time and money on the line without a solid reason. Be smart about it and you'll be able to push through.

My strategy game Ovus Nova received some upgrades to its gameplay again. One of the upgrades are upgrades. :D
Another big change is that your creatures don't explode anymore. They just go into attack mode / turret mode and keep shooting in your swipe direction for a while.
This in combination with the newly added upgrades makes the game feel a lot more like a strategy game. You have more options, need to do more planning, it feels more like a tactical war and less like an action game.
I think I made some very decent game design decisions here, helping to improve the gameplay and push it forwards. That's why I love game development. No matter how bad you game is, you can always find a way to improve it and make progress.
