This also means that you'll have to move the water around to reach where you need to go. Believe me. Plus you get your hands on one of the best powerups in the game, the Hookshot. This is part of a collection of Final Fantasy games that I plan to cover on this channel. With the White & Black Mask in our possession, we are ready to head for the Tower of Mysidia. There's one problem. Something is stopping us from getting there. It's Leviathan. FF2 marks it's first appearance as in this game, it's a sea creature that swallows up anyone from trying to reach Mysidia Tower. It's also here where we meet the second-to-last party member, Ricard Highwind. In the PS1 version, he's known as Gareth. Ricard is a Dragoon, one of the last. It's also here where this is the point of no return. Take care of anything that you miss because once you complete the Tower and obtain the Ultima tome, there's no going back... unless you make a backup save. Anyway, we enter the Tower of Mysidia. It's here where the game throws away the kid gloves. You're fighting tough enemies here but if by this point, you've made your party strong enough, then it's a non-issue. It's also here you will be fighting against bosses. Here's my tip for you. Buff your party with defensive spells then try to curse the boss. Cursing them reduces their attack and defense. Once you do that, go nuts. Once we reach the top, we encounter Minwu. He's trying to break the seal on Ultima and he does so, utilizing all his magic and power. Sadly it becomes too much of a strain on his body and then he dies. As Firion and his crew enter inside, be sure to get the four orbs around Ultima. They'll boost your party's stats. Then they obtain Ultima, the most powerful tome in the game. I'll be detailing my thoughts on Ultima in Part 9... and there is a reason for it. After obtaining Ultima, the party returns back but what they find is a massacre. The Emperor has had enough of the Rebels and has decided to take matters in his own hands. Using his dark magic, he summons a massive cyclone to decimate four of the towns that we can no longer visit. Paloom, Poft, Gatrie and Altair. All gone. All the people that lived there perished. The Emperor has decided to lead the charge himself wiping out anyone or anything that gets in his way. And Fynn is his next target. We return to Fynn and even with Ultima, it's not enough. How do you deal with a cyclone? Since we have Ricard, we return to a certain place in the castle. Using the Pendant, the last Wyvern is called and arrives to Ricard's side. Current Team Composition: Luneth (Knight), Arc (White Mage), Refia (Black Belt), Ingus (Dragoon) IMPORTANT NOTE: If you want this fight to be easier, have everyone be Dragoons. Trust me. The game actually hints it that you should have a party consisting of Dragoons. Anyway, we accompany the prince of Saronia into the castle. But as day turns to night, the king shows up... ready to kill his kid. But instead of doing so, he takes his own life to prevent himself from being controlled. Damn that's deep. This forces the assistant to reveal his true colors as Garuda. Garuda is a boss that will mop the floor with you and I mean hard. Why? It's Lightning attack. That attack hits every member unless you are in the air via the Dragoon's Jump ability. If you have a party of Dragoons, just have them Jump in the air and attack. It makes the fight easier. But if you are a damn masochist like me, if you have a Dragoon in your party, have him Jump every chance he gets. Have your White Mage constantly heal every turn while your offensive units attack. This fight can get really taxing and you may have to level yourself up further if you want to survive. Believe me.
