New York Post reports: A Manhattan grand jury is finally weighing sex-assault charges against accused serial predator Harvey Weinstein, The Post has learned. Subpoenas have been sent out by the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office to the disgraced movie mogul’s closest associates, compelling them to either testify or submit documents in lieu of taking the witness stand, sources said Friday. It’s unclear what case or cases are being considered by the grand jury. Meanwhile, the panel may also be considering charges involving embezzlement, sources said. Subpoenas were also issued for various records dating as far back as 2004, including phone records, emails and financial documents related to Weinstein, The Weinstein Company and other businesses he owned. Top prosecutor Joan Illuzzi — who spearheaded the sexual-assault and attempted-rape case against Dominique Strauss-Kahn and recently won a murder conviction in the 1979 disappearance of Etan Patz — is handling the Weinstein case, sources said. The Strauss-Kahn case was ultimately dropped by prosecutors. In Manhattan, Weinstein has been accused of forcing Lucia Evans, then a college student, to perform oral sex on him inside his Tribeca office in 2004 and raping “Boardwalk Empire” actress Paz de la Huerta on two occasions in 2010. They are more than 80 women who have accused Weinstein — who reigned as one of the most powerful producers in Hollywood — of sexual harassment and abuse over the period of decades. The 66-year-old dad of five is also being investigated in Los Angeles, Beverly Hills and London but has not been charged. A rep for Weinstein’s lawyer didn’t immediately comment, nor did the Manhattan DA’s Office.
