Three Texas Democrats have tested positive for COVID-19 five days after they packed onto private jets without wearing face masks and snapped selfies intended to taunt their Republican rivals.
Meanwhile, a Texas state representative alleged that the three lawmakers were lying and 'playing games' just to stay in DC - and away from a vote on an election reform bill - in Texas.
On Monday, 60 left-wing lawmakers fled Texas in order to block a 'restrictive' voting reform bill proposed by conservatives. They chartered two flights to Washington, DC that purportedly cost a whopping $100,000.
The group has since been staying at a plush hotel in the nation's capital and schmoozing with many high-powered politicians. They even met with Vice President Kamala Harris during a closed-door meeting on Tuesday.
Several of the Texas Democrats have publicly endorsed wearing face masks, but it seems they are not so enthused about using the coverings in private. The Austin American Statesman claims that the group has only used masks 'sparingly' at meetings in DC.
Officials have not released the names of the three Democrats who have contracted the coronavirus, but they are now in self-isolation and will stay there for at least 10 days.
The outbreak was discovered on Friday, when one of the lawmakers tested positive after taking a rapid COVID test.
Others from the group were subsequently tested on Saturday morning, and two more were found to be positive. One of them is said to be experiencing 'mild' symptoms.
All three of the infected officials are fully vaccinated.
Texas State. Rep. Briscoe Cain told Fox News he thought the news of the COVID positive tests was an 'excuse to avoid coming back' and face a vote on the elections overhaul bill.
'I say prove it,' Cain said of the positive results. 'They want a reason to do a 14-day quarantine; they don’t want to come back and do their jobs. If they really have it, prove it.'
According to the Austin American Statesman, 'there was a notable increase in the use of face coverings among lawmakers and Democratic staffers at their hotel on Saturday morning'.
In statement on Saturday, Rep. Chris Turner, the chairman of the House Democratic Caucus, said: 'The House Democratic Caucus is following all CDC guidance and protocols.
'This is a sober reminder that COVID is still with us, and though vaccinations offer tremendous protection, we still must take necessary precautions. We are in touch with public health experts in Texas to provide additional guidance. Our caucus will follow all recommendations from public health experts as we continue our work.'

Wild squirrels have been attacking residents living in the New York City borough of Queens since late November, leaving many afraid of venturing outside.
The wild attacks have occurred mostly in Rego Park, with the bulk of them happening on 65th Drive near Fitchett Street.
One woman has even had to go to the emergency room, with others expressing their worry about even going outside.
'It just basically runs up my leg and I'm like OK squirrel, hello, what are you doing,' Micheline Frederick told ABC7 about her December 21 attack.
'He either bit or scratched me on my neck and then I must have reached over and next thing I know, it's a cage match and I'm losing.'
Frederick had blood and bruises all over her hands. She got a rabies shot as a precaution and then warned another neighbor, who was eventually attacked by a squirrel herself.
'I tried to shake it off but I couldn't, squirrels have claws, cling onto your winter jacket, there's no way to shake it off,' shared neighbor Licia Wang.
Three other residents shared that they had similar experiences with a single squirrel or ones that traveled in groups.
The residents were forced to hire their own licensed trapper after the city provided no additional solutions to help.
'Worried for the children, that's what most people are scared with the kids,' Frederick stated.
Experts believe that the squirrels are acting out as a result of being fed by humans. But residents in the area asserted that they had not been interacting with the squirrels when they were attacked.
'When we leave the house, we have to carry mom's homemade pepper spray to make sure if it comes at us, we spray it,' resident Anika Singh Sood said.
The NYC Department of Health instructed for New Yorkers to call 311 if they believe they have 'observed an animal infected with rabies.'

Johns Hopkins professor Dr Marty Makary has made a bold claim: 'We'll have herd immunity by April'.
Dr Makary wrote in a Wall Street Journal editorial that he estimates that the U.S. will have herd immunity by then, driven by the high, but underestimated, number of people who have been infected already and vaccination.
'Some medical experts privately agreed with my prediction that there may be very little Covid-19 by April but suggested that I not to talk publicly about herd immunity because people might become complacent and fail to take precautions or might decline the vaccine,' said Dr Makary in his editorial, published Friday.
'But scientists shouldn’t try to manipulate the public by hiding the truth.'
Dr Makary noted that new daily infections have declined 77 percent in the past six weeks (a DailyMail.com analysis of Johns Hopkins data shows a 72 percent decline), equating this decrease to a 'miracle pill.'
President Joe Biden also said he hopes Americans can 'return to normalcy' by the end of this year during a visit to a Pfizer vaccine manufacturing facility in Michigan on Friday.
The US saw 74,676 new cases of coronavirus on Friday, compared to six weeks ago, when the seven-day rolling average of new daily infections was 247,164. Infections have been declining steadily for the past five weeks, but top health officials including Dr Anthony Fauci and CDC director Dr Rochelle Walensky have warned that the progress is tenuous.
America is still seeing more new infections a day than it did at the height of the summer peak, Dr Walensky reiterated on Friday - and even the current downward trajectory is threatened by the spread of new variants like the UK's, which has already caused more than 1,600 infections in 43 states.
Dr Makary's rosy prediction largely dismisses the presence of variants, noting that cases are declining in the UK, where the B117 variant quickly became dominant, triggering massive case surges and lockdowns there.
He also claims that herd immunity in the Brazilian city of Manaus, where 76 percent of people had already been infected resulted in a 'slowing of the infection.' But the Lancet report that he drew those statistics from documented the 'resurgence of COVID-19 despite high' proportions of the population who had previously infected.
In the US, the CDC predicts that the B117 variant will become dominant by March. Cases are already doubling about every 10 days, according to a recent Scripps Research Institute study - and experts are concerned that the 1.58 million doses of vaccine being given a day won't enough to the more infectious variants now spreading in the U.S.

A Louisiana teacher's aide who was arrested in February for allegedly having sex with a 16-year-old foreign exchange student has been charged with additional counts stemming from a trip to New Orleans with the boy.
Kimberly Wellman-Rich, 36, was booked into the New Orleans jail on Monday on counts of carnal knowledge of a juvenile, which is Louisiana's equivalent of statutory, and indecent behavior, among others. She was later released on $35,000 bail.
The new charges are related to allegations that in January, Wellman-Rich took the boy from Jefferson Parish to New Orleans and had sex with him at a French Quarter hotel.
Wellman-Rich's husband, Jeffrey Rich, later confronted the teen, who told him about his many encounters with his wife, according to newly filed court documents. The teen said Jeffrey was 'angry' but told him to keep his encounters with Kimberly a secret 'from everyone except him.'
In mid-February, Wellman-Rich, who worked as a special education teacher's aide at Edgar Martin Middle School, was arrested in Jefferson Parish on similar charges related to her suspected relationship with the 16-year-old foreign exchange student from Europe, who had been staying at her house.
She was fired from her job less than two weeks after her February 11 arrest, reported Nola.com.
Jeffrey Rich, 35, was charged at the time with accessory after the fact to felony carnal knowledge of a juvenile and contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile. He remains free on bail.
The case began unfolding on January 22, when an anonymous tipster told police that Wellman-Rich was hosting a juvenile foreign exchange student at her home in Youngsville and having sex with him.
Police said they interviewed witnesses and gathered evidence, which led them to believe that Wellman-Rich’s husband ‘had first-hand knowledge’ of the alleged abuse.
Investigators also said they learned that the couple allowed the teen to smoke marijuana and drink alcoholic beverages in their home.
The teenager was removed the home once the investigation began, police told KFLY.
According to documents filed in court this week, the couple began hosting the teen in August 2020.
When the boy turned 16, Wellman-Rich allegedly had sex with him. Police said the teen was a virgin before his encounter with the married teacher's aide.
During his interview with investigators, the boy said he and Wellman-Rich had sex multiple times on the couch, in her bed and in the guest room. During some of the encounters Jeffrey was at home but in another room.
According to the filings, Wellman-Rich told friends about her relationship with the minor, but pleaded with him to keep it a secret. The legal age of consent in Louisiana is 17.

Demonstrations to commemorate the first anniversary of Breonna Taylor's death have turned violent as protesters clashed with cops and members of the public at marches across the country.
Hundreds of activists took to the streets in Los Angeles for a march on Saturday night, where two demonstrators were seen smashing a squad car.
Video shared on social media shows the men beating the hood of the LAPD vehicle as it stopped on a road in Hollywood with its siren blaring.
The cop car then slowly started to move with the men still smashing the hood, before it abruptly accelerated throwing the men onto the road.
'LAPD just ran over two protesters at the Hollywood Breonna Taylor march,' one activist stated beneath a video of the incident.
Other footage shared to social media showed police clad in riot gear as they stood off against protesters. Several businesses in the Hollywood area were also reportedly vandalized.
Meanwhile, in Louisville, Kentucky - the city where Taylor was shot dead during a botched police raid on her home on March 13, 2020 - armed demonstrators blocked roads prompting police to declare an unlawful assembly.
'Arrests will be made to those that refuse to disperse,' the Louisville Metropolitan Police Department wrote on Twitter at 9.30pm local time.
It is currently unclear whether anyone has been taken into custody
In Seattle, police were seen blocking roads as other cops on bikes were pictured pushing a crowd forward into the downtown area.
Meanwhile, in Portland, there was a heavy police presence as hundreds of demonstrators protested outside the Mark O. Hatfield Federal Courthouse.
The city has been on high alert following two nights of unrest earlier this week during unrelated protests purportedly held by Antifa.
During those rallies, far-left activists set fires, smashed windows of businesses and vandalized a federal courthouse.
There have been no reports of any violence from Breonna Taylor protesters there on Saturday night.

Two alleged gang members have been indicted on charges related to the death of an eight-year-old girl who was gunned down during Black Lives Matter riots in Atlanta last year.
Secoriea Turner was killed July 4, 2020, while riding in an SUV with her mother and her mother's friend near the Wendy's restaurant where Rayshard Brooks, a 27-year-old black man, had been killed by a white police officer just weeks earlier.
A grand jury returned a 37-count indictment against Julian Conley, 19, and Jerrion McKinney, 23, on Friday.
Conley is charged with malice murder and felony murder in Secoriea's killing, and both men face aggravated assault, gun and gang-related charges.
'This case is the highest priority for my office,' Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis said, calling it 'one of the saddest cases I've seen.'
'We are alleging that Mr. Conley fired into the car when it failed to stop and respect their barricade, and that led to the tragic killing of Secoriea Turner,' Willis said during a news conference.
Conley, 20, was arrested last year. An attorney for Conley who no longer represents him has previously said he was peacefully protesting and witnessed the shooting but did not open fire himself. No new attorney for Conley was listed in online court records.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation last week announced the arrest of 23-year-old McKinney. No attorney who could comment on the charges was listed for him in online court records.
Willis said the two men were members of the Bloods street gang.
Wendy's restaurant was set on fire the day after Brooks' killing, and people protesting police brutality camped out at the site during the weeks that followed.
Makeshift barricades had been set up in the area by members of the Bloods street gang who were protesting the killing of Brooks.
Willis said Brooks was also a member of the gang, but lawyers for his family said they had no knowledge of such an affiliation.
Authorities said armed men had been blocking roads and turning some drivers away. As the driver of the SUV Secoriea was riding in approached the barricade, armed people began walking toward the vehicle and signaling that the driver couldn't pass, according to officials.
'We are alleging that Mr. Conley fired into the car when it failed to stop and respect their barricade and that led to the tragic killing of Secoriea Turner,' Willis said.
Willis said Conley and McKinney are accused of guarding the barricade and encouraging the commission of various crimes as part of their participation in the Bloods, including aiming a firearm at at least two other people in a car the same day Secoriea was killed.

CNN anchor Chris Cuomo has been mocked online for failing on Friday to mention the scandal surrounding his older brother Andrew, the governor of New York.
One social media user said she was 'disappointed', while another joked that there was 'big news coming out of New York state' that Chris Cuomo ignored.

Andrew Cuomo, 63, has been rocked by the confession on Thursday of his top aide, Melissa DeRosa, that they deliberately hid data on nursing home COVID deaths, in the midst of a Justice Department investigation into their handling of the pandemic.
He is yet to comment on the scandal, which is seeing mounting calls for him to resign.
On Friday night CNN anchors Jake Tapper and Erin Burnett covered the story, with Tapper tweeting that it 'keeps getting worse', but Chris Cuomo, 50, instead dedicated his entire show to Donald Trump's impeachment trial.
'Some big news coming out of New York state,' joked one.
'Something about the governor and killing senior citizens. You might want to look into that, Mr Reporter.'
Another added: 'Speaking of trusting data and governors...'
One person dismissed the Cuomo family as 'scumbags'.
Another said they were 'disappointed', adding: 'Is your brother off limits?'
'I noticed no mention of the news about your brother on the show tonight! How convenient!' noted another.
CNN is yet to respond to DailyMail.com's request for comment.
In May the brothers were criticized for making light of the pandemic, after Andrew Cuomo appeared on Chris Cuomo's show.
The governor recounted how he was tested for coronavirus on live TV during his daily press briefing on Sunday, leading his brother to joke he had a big nose and required a baseball bat-sized nasal swab for a test.
The View host Meghan McCain led the criticism on Twitter saying: 'I’m not sure I’m going to ever be able to buy a crib or baby clothes for my first child in a store, Most of my friends are jobless, petrified and dealing w depression & @JaniceDean lost both her mother and father in law to COVID within a week of each other.'
'This is HILARIOUS guys,' she added sarcastically.
Andrew Cuomo was at the White House on Friday, to meet Joe Biden and discuss COVID relief efforts. He did not take questions about the growing scandal.
Cuomo, who heads the National Governor's Association, instead praised the president in a statement released after the Oval Office meeting, saying Biden and his team 'made clear that they recognize and appreciate how critical this targeted relief is for our ability to recover from this pandemic.'
White House press secretary Jen Psaki would not say on Friday whether Biden has lost confidence in Cuomo given the growing criticism.

Conservative talk show host Charlie Kirk has attacked 'unbelievably ungrateful' Meghan Markle, accusing her of setting out to tarnish her in-laws and inventing the shocking story of how a senior member of the Royal family asked about the color of her son Archie's skin.
Kirk, 27, delivered his scathing verdict on Markle's remarks on his radio show on Monday.
He was unimpressed with Markle, who he described as a 'self-indulgent tradition-destroying leftist', and her husband Prince Harry, who was labeled 'a metrosexual beta male really lacking in almost all testosterone'.
And he saw her criticism of the Royal family as deeply ungrateful.

Harry refused to reveal the person's identity on Sunday night as did Meghan and claimed they wanted to protect whoever it was - leaving the rest of the family open to suspicion.

Donald Trump is reportedly moving forward with his plans to create a 'Patriot Party' to put pressure on Republicans who oppose him and attempt to head off conviction in his second Senate impeachment trial.
Trump has told people that the third-party threat gives him leverage to prevent Republican senators from voting to convict him during the Senate trial next month, people in his orbit told the Washington Post.
Since President Joe Biden took office, Trump has been ensconced at Mar-a-Lago, remaining publicly cryptic about his plans except to tell a reporter on Friday: 'We'll do something, but not just yet.'
But behind closed doors, Trump is already drafting an enemies list of Republicans who opposed his baseless claims of election fraud, instructing aids to prepare primary challenges against them, sources told the Post.
The list is said to include the House's number three Republican, Rep. Liz Cheney of Wyoming, who broke party ranks and voted to impeach Trump over his role in the January 6 Capitol riot. Rep. Tom Rice, a South Carolina Republican, is on the list for the same reason.
Georgia Governor Brian Kemp is also reportedly on the list after provoking Trump's fury for refusing to back his challenge to the state's election results, which were certified for Biden.
Senator Lisa Murkowski, an Alaska Republican who has signaled that she is open to voting to convict Trump, is also said to be a Patriot Party primary target. Kemp and Murkowski are both up for re-election in 2022.
Trump advisers say they plan to recruit opposing primary candidates and commission polling as soon as next week in districts of targeted lawmakers.
To fund his splinter party, Trump has more than $70 million in campaign cash on hand, the sources said.
Though the Trump campaign was essentially tapped out on Election Day, the campaign and several allied groups raised $207 million between November 3 and November 23, fundraising on his push to challenged the election results.
The number is certainly higher by now, but hard numbers won't be disclosed to the Federal Election Commission until January 31.
Much of Trump's fate in the Senate trial will rest in the hands of Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, who has been cagey about his plans but publicly rebuked Trump after the Capitol riot, saying Trump had 'provoked' the mob.
McConnell will have to weigh the exodus of corporate donations away from the GOP in the wake of the riot, against the risk of infuriating and alienating Trump's base by voting to convict.
