Royal Ontario Museum - Toronto - Treasures of Arts of Jodhpur - Garfield Weston Exhibition Hall
The Royal Ontario Museum has brought a spectacular royal arts and artifacts exhibition from one of India’s largest erstwhile kingdoms- Jodhpur in Rajasthan.
The exhibition titled Treasures of a Desert Kingdom: The Royal Arts of Jodhpur is on at ROM’s Garfield Weston Exhibition Hall from March 9, 2019 to September 2, 2019.
Organized by the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston with the collaboration of the Mehrangarh Museum Trust, Jodhpur, India, the display contains opulent but select jewellery pieces, lavish tents and canopies, palanquins, textiles, weapons, devotional objects, a 1927 Rolls Royce Phantom and huge paintings from the palace of Gaj Singh II, the current Maharaja of Marwar-Jodhpur.
These treasures reflect the history and artistic legacy of the Rathore dynasty, one of the longest royal lineages in the world that ruled Rajasthan until India’s independence in 1947. - VNN
