SSHIP, or Stainless Steel Historical Improvement Project, is an ambitious mod for Medieval II Total War, known for its historical accuracy and unique gameplay changes. It has won first place in the 2018, 2019, and 2020 TWC Modding Awards for Medieval II Total War Submods. Here are some key features of SSHIP: Unique Settlements: SSHIP adjusts the sizes and populations of cities and castles based on historical data. Major cities like Constantinople can start with a population of around 150,000, making public order a challenge to manage. In contrast, less developed regions like Scandinavia, Cumania, or Lithuania have smaller and slower-growing towns and villages, offering a diverse range of settlement experiences. Buildings The mod discourages a "build everything everywhere" approach by introducing specific positive and negative factors for most buildings. Players must make strategic decisions on whether to construct a building based on its impact. There's also a limited tech tree, and advanced buildings may require specific professions like stonemasons or carpenters.
