The Council of Nicaea: Fact Vs. Fiction | 321AD-330AD
The First Council of Nicaea in 325AD is perhaps the ecumenical council many people know best, however due to the work of Dan Brown many have strong misconceptions of what ACTUALLY happened there. The First Council of Nicaea was a three month show down between Arius and the Bishop of Alexandria - Saint Alexander of Alexandria - formally called by the newly converted Emperor Constantine. The most important question wrangled with during that meeting was determining the exact divine nature of Jesus. Was Jesus God? Or was he separate from God? It is a point not all of Christianity even agrees upon today.

In our final segment, Patrick discusses with us the first major steps of founding the Gupta Empire on the Indian subcontinent. The Guptas would become an eminent power on the subcontinent for the next three centuries. Moreover, many people consider this Gupta period as the great golden age of Indian civilization. We learn more.

The Roman Empire prior to it's turn towards Christianity has a notorious reputation today given some of the persecutions that took place. Though, what is the reality of this historical image? It is in this decade that the Roman Empire has gone forth and fully evacuated its presence in Britannia, ending a near four centuries long rule over most of what we know today as England and Wales. It is the period of "Sub-Roman Britain" that begins this decade, leading eventually to the rise of the Anglo-Saxons in Britain. We also make our formal introduction to the figure known to history as Alaric I: the first king of the Visigoths. Though perhaps more salaciously, Alaric I has also become known as "The Scourge of Rome." However Alaric I is no run-of-the-mill scourge, but one the Romans created for themselves.
