Due to their lack of residency and employment, The Man of Steel & Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man move in with Gotham City's Dark Knight. But will they overstay their welcome?
In this part one of two special, the Nerd dons his cowl and cape and prepares to beat back the darkness of bad video games, as he looks over a series of games based upon the dark knight himself, Batman, that were made for the Commodore 64, NES, Sega CD, Atari Lynx, SNES, Game Boy, and Genesis. This is Angry Video Game Nerd Episode 52.
James dresses up like Batman and reviews several video games based on the famous caped crusader of comic book and movie fame. The first game he reviews in this episode is "Batman: The Caped Crusader" for the Commodore 64, a redundant game with comic book style graphics that was published by Ocean Software in 1988. Next, he reviews the classic, stylish, addicting NES game "Batman" made by Sunsoft; "Batman Returns" for the SNES, Sega CD and Atari Lynx consoles based on the 1992 Tim Burton film of the same name; "The Adventures of Batman and Robin" based on the cartoon Batman: The Animated Series which aired on Fox from 1992 to 1995; and finally the atrocious and befuddling SNES game "Batman Forever" based on the 1995 Joel Schumacher film Batman Forever. At the end of the episode, Batman's arch-nemesis, the Joker, makes an unwanted appearance and ties the nerd up. Check out part two for the conclusion!
Made by the notorious LJN, "Alien 3" for the Nintendo Entertainment System is incredibly difficult. The screen does not keep up with the action, the A and B buttons are opposite of what they are in most games, there is a time limit that is practically impossible to defeat and there are teases throughout the game for one-ups and items that ARE impossible to get. If that's not enough, most of the characters are unidentifiable and most of the action in the game has little to absolutely nothing to do with the film. If that's not enough, one James makes it through this horrendous pile of goat puke, the payoff is less than memorable. The game doesn't even get the ending right. It has NOTHING to do with the movie. If you want to understand the real reason why Ellen Ripley jumped to her death at the end of the film, it was probably because she was told she would have to either play this game or die. She made the sane choice and chose the latter.
And here we go again for a Player of the Attic episode! Robin Hood is probably one of the most popular and most adapted tales out there, whether into cartoons or movies, but it has also been into video games and it wasn't really good!
Angry Video Game Nerd (AVGN) episode 188: Shrek: Fairy Tale Freakdown.
