The AirTurn BT-105 Digit is a revolutionary wireless controller that combines foot pedal compatibility with handheld control. A silent, tactile button set provides the ability to turn pages, control teleprompter apps, and advance presentation slides, as well as media control for iTunes on all iOS devices including iTunes for Mac and PC, and the ability to control iOS cameras for remote video and picture snapshots. For hands free pedal control, two 3.5mm (1/8 inch) stereo ports can connect to momentary, non-latching normally open (NO) pedals and switches that replicate the handset button controls (pedals sold separately).
The AirTurn BT-105 Digit features 6 silent membrane buttons, a power switch, status indicator light, 5 keyboard profiles, and an internal rechargeable battery with a mini USB recharging port. Battery life will vary, but users can expect up to 100 hours of standby usage. The AirTurn BT-105 Digit also features automatic Bluetooth pairing with the iPad for easy connections and fast page turns, as well as a built-in debounce filter to prevent multiple page turns for each button or foot switch press.
The AirTurn BT-105 Digit works with a growing number of iPad apps as well as Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Keynote for PC and Mac Bluetooth equipped computers. The AirTurn BT-105 Digit works with iTunes on all Bluetooth-capable iOS devices (all iPads, iPhone 3S and above, and iPod Touch), as well as iTunes for Mac and PC computers, giving users the ability to play/pause, navigate tracks, and control volume. The AirTurn BT-105 Digit will also control the camera on all camera-equipped iOS devices.

For several years, I’ve been the pianist accompanying various members of The Philadelphia Orchestra in their wonderful children’s program, “Sound All Around”. These delightful mini-concerts are the brainchild of master storyteller and narrator extraordinaire Charlotte Blake Alston, and they combine whimsical stories with musical accompaniments by featured instrumentalists from the orchestra. As such, we need to work closely with a script and a collection of musical fragments provided by the featured musician (along with a healthy dose of crazy improvisations that’s the result of my childhood immersed in too many Saturday-morning cartoons…
Inspired by my interview with Newzik co-founder Aurélia Azoulay-Guetta, I’ve been trying to put this sheet music reading app through its paces. As I said in the interview, the ability for me to be able to mark up the music with my Apple Pen while turning pages hands-free with my AirTurn is an absolute game-changer, making my rehearsals so much more efficient! But as we were rehearsing, I found myself resorting to paper copies of the script to keep track of all the musical cues next to my iPad Pro displaying the sheet music. That’s when an “aha” moment struck me: what if I could ask the Newzik developers to come up with a way to show two different PDF files on a single iPad screen? One PDF could be the written script, the other PDF would be the sheet music. What a great feature that would be for musicians working off of a detailed theatrical cue sheet!
Then during the bus ride home from the rehearsal, I realized that i was a total idiot!! The latest iPad OS already provides a fantastic new feature for opening two different apps at the same time!! Problem solved - thank you, Apple!!

Gaelic singer, songwriter, and educator Calum Martin has been performing and recording since 1979. Based on the Isle of Lewis off the coast of Scotland, Calum has a special interest in Gaelic Psalm Singing, a unique a capella improvisatory singing style still practiced by congregations during their Sunday worship services, as well as pockets of African-American and Cree Indian congregations in the US. In fact, Calum explains, jazz, country and bluegrass styles can trace their musical origins in the Gaelic Psalms sung in the western isles of Scotland.

Jason Heath is a freelance double bass player who started his Contrabass Conversations podcast way back in 2007, nearly 10 years ago. Now with well over a million downloads, Jason’s incredibly popular podcast is the Internet’s most comprehensive resource on all people and topics related to life and music around the double bass.
This month, we’re going to be exploring the world of music podcasters and entrepreneurs, starting with Jason Heath, who has I believe the longest running classical music podcast show around, nearly 10 years running, with over 250 episodes and well over a million and a half downloads at the time of this broadcast. An interesting historical sidenote: former MTV VJ Adam Curry is credited with being one of the initial pioneers of podcasting, and launched what many believe to be the first podcast show produced on a regular basis, Daily Source Code, back in 2004. Podcasts are essentially “radio shows” that you can listen to either directly on a web page or on a smartphone or MP3 player. The beauty of podcasts is the fact that anyone can produce and distribute their own shows. This can be an inexpensive, yet powerful way to get your name out, reach a worldwide audience, and connect with the movers and shakers of whatever musical niche you’re passionate about. For Jason Heath, podcasting has been a way for him to do all of those things and more, enabling him to extend his freelance double bass career far beyond what’s normally possible.

Pieter Schlosser is an award-winning film, television and video game composer known for his work on NBC's hit show You, Me And The Apocalypse, as well as his collaborations with Steve Jablonsky on Desperate Housewives, the Transformers film, and Gears of War 2 & 3 video games. As a multi-cultural multi-instrumentalist, Pieter draws on an incredible reservoir of creativity and artistic versatility. I really love these shows where we get to talk to amazing composers and explore the creative process and inspirations behind their work. Pieter Schlosser is one of those musicians that needs the prefix “multi” in front of their name - multi-linguist, multi-genre, multi-talented. And a great suffix for him would probably be, “go-getter” - time and time again, Pieter’s initiative has served him well, putting him in the company of great film composers like Hans Zimmer and opening some incredible opportunities in film, TV, and video games.
