Isaiah’s Prophetic Message In poetic language and metaphor Isaiah expressed the message of the Feast of Trumpets the Day of Reckoning. It is a sobering warning to everyone for all time, but most importantly to the leaders who dictate political, social, economic, and military policy. No matter who you are or where you are, God is promising to cut down the proud and the arrogant. He will destroy the great economic system – their magnificent ship of state – along with the builders. Much later the apostle John wrote a similar vision in the book of Revelation. John revisited this theme of the Feast of Trumpets the Day of Reckoning when he scribed the message, “The great Babylon is fallen, fallen…” He recorded God’s judgment against the elite rulers of the world who had built a life of luxury on the backs of those they had enslaved. They would fall in a day and be brought to ruin in a single hour. And the merchants of the world who had profited from this tyrannical but profitable system would mourn its destruction. But why would God judge them so harshly?
How can you escape slavery, if you do not know you are a slave? This was the dilemma as expressed by Frederick Douglass the American abolitionist reformer in the 1800’s. He did not know he was a slave until he could no longer do the things he wanted to do. In our present situation with ‘stay at home’ orders, the lock down of many businesses, and the control of movement many people are becoming worried about the power of the state overriding constitutional rights. In North America we have to this point cherished our freedoms: freedom to speak, to move, and to defend ourselves. And yet have we succumbed to a different kind of slavery?
Millions of people believe that the Church had the power to bind and to loose. But is this true? What does the bible say about what is bound and what is loosened by God. Who has the authority to bind and loose? Christ gives an unequivocal answer that may surprise you.http://www.cogwebcast.com

When the Past is never Really Past
Heresies seem to be the norm in history. And according to John’s writings old errors and deceptions are recycled into ‘new’ heresies. That is why he told his readers to ‘test he spirits’ as there would be false teachers. Paul also counselled believers to ‘test all things’ and not be gullible, falling prey to old heresies that were dressed up as new truth. Jesus warned of powerful deceptions that would test the ‘very elect.’ But he also provided a guide that could be used to determine whether some idea was true or heretical.
Coming before the king was often a difficult task that required great determination and patience, as it was only the few who could gain an audience with the king in order to make requests, or have grievances settled. As a tour of Hampton Court made clear, it was unlikely that any commoner would have the honour of coming before the king. Can we have access to the king?

A surprising future for the old covenant: God’s covenant with the nation of Israel is still in effect. How do we know this to be true? Christians are sometimes confused by the term Judeo Christian. Judeo Christian does not mean Jewish Christian or Messianic Jew, so what does it mean?
Let me explain what Judeo Christian means, for those who are without background in the topic; the words Judeo Christian are most often used to describe the biblically based religious, moral, and ethical heritage of certain western societies. But there is a more complete definition of Judeo Christianity:
A belief system and lifestyle founded upon the principle of Sola Scriptura (by bible alone). The Holy Bible, in its entirety, (Hebrew and Greek scriptures) is a complete and divinely inspired compilation of books written for revelation, instruction, and reproof.
2 Timothy 3

We first meet the Devil’s devices in the garden of Eden. There he sowed doubt in the minds of Adam and Eve with his crafty insinuation. “Is it true that God has said…” He first undermined their trust in God as a God of truth. Then, he appealed to their desire to be wise and live forever, with the infamous, “You shall not surely die!” As the Father of lies he obscured the truth that only God could give eternal life as a gift. And though it was ‘true’ that the tree of knowledge would ‘open their eyes’ and give them knowledge, he used this to deceive. Their adversary also knew the ultimate outcome of eating the fruit of that tree would be death. Are we as aware as we should be of the Devil’s devices as they have been re-envisioned in our world. Or do we buy into one of his finest lies, “The devil? Naw, he doesn’t exist.”

When Miracles are not Enough
Are you looking for a miracle to bolster your faith? The sad reality is that miracles are not enough. Paul made this reality very clear in writing to the brethren at Corinth. They had made an amazing transformation by accepting the biblical message and rejecting their pagan roots. As a result, they were now 'spiritual Jews' and the children of Abraham through baptism, even though gentiles by birth. But Paul had a warning for them and for us. He reminded them of the history of their ancestors, the Israelites in the wilderness. And Paul explained the pitfalls that tripped them up, even though they had seen God's amazing deliverance. It was evident that the miracles were not enough. For intimate personal experience with God's miracle working power did not transform the people or build their faith. So what is the lesson for us?
