I have recently purchased a 3D printer (filament printing) and am absolutely sold on its magic. However, I was curious to see how different the Filament print quality would be to the Resin prints. The most challenging part of this project was undoubtedly the cabinet restoration. I wanted a good matt finish, but had a few problems getting the desired result. But, all's well that ends well. Some taming of the mains voltage was needed as we have a 220V input selection, while our mains supply here goes all the way up to around 240V. Anyway, not a problem. Hope you enjoy the video. My usual technique in restorations is to work backwards from the power supply. So I usually do the power supply, the power amp, the preamp, and the various sources, in that order. I started this one in a rather unorthodox fashion, but decided that I'd stand a much better chance of success if I reverted to my tried and tested method. So, here goes ... I had never before seen a TeKaDe (TKD) radio before, which obviously peaked my interest in doing this restoration. This one is a AM only set, with medium wave and four shortwave bands, so it goes all the way through the commonly used AM radio frequency spectrum. The set is quite simple but it does have a phono input, which I need to add a bluetooth receiver later on. In keeping with the previous experience with this radio, most of the components, with the exception of the paper capacitors, are in incredibly good condition. This made the checking of the AM bands section quite a breeze. But, will it work? I decided to test it direct on this video, and can only hope that I don't end up with egg in my face. I like variety in my hobby, so after restoring many German tube radios, a Philips presents a few new challenges. The 'anatomy' of the radio's build is different to the 'normal' German radio configurations, and a few design details interest me in this one. It is a Bi-Ampli model, meaning that it has a true stereo audio chain with separate output transformers and power tubes for each channel. This lends itself perfectly for adding a Bluetooth reception module to it, and that is what is planned here. The condition of this chassis is horrendous! It is really dirty, so tons of isopropyl alcohol will be needed to bring out the shine again, but the transition should be dramatic. Lets get started. Enjoy the video.
