"SA CALOBRA", The impossible road - MALLORCA
The road to "Sa Calobra" was a titanic engineering work, the masterpiece of the Spanish engineer Antonio Parietti Coll. Its complex layout required six years of manual construction, peak and dynamite, without any machinery, moving more than 30,000 cubic meters of rocks.
It saves an unevenness of 700 meters and its design and layout required a lot of imagination and technique from the illustrious engineer.
The famous curve known as "The tie knot" was conceived by chance, on a sleepless night the Engineer was drawing random lines on the plans, in an attempt to save labor and dynamite, observing the scribbles and in a moment of inspiration conceived this spectacular curve that turns on itself 270º.
At the end of this marvel of engineering we ere received by the beautiful cove of "Sa Calobra" (means the snake in Mallorquin) and the fantastic mouth of the "Torrent de Pareis".
The descent itself is a spectacular and unforgettable journey and the place is full of magic and beauty.
