Did you know that certain mental illnesses used to be associated with an obsession with the moon in the past? If you had epilepsy, bipolar disease or were mad, you could be claimed to be "moonstruck" during the Middle Ages. Also, neighbours could report you to the authorities if you looked at the moon too often (or simply if they didn't like you and wanted you to get into trouble). The term "lunatic" is derived from the Latin word "luna", which means "the moon". If people were called lunatics, it meant that their behaviour was strangely affected by the moon and it's different cycles. "Lunatics" were said to gaze at the full moon in a trance. Very often, their behaviour and diseases were also associated with the devil because the people couldn't understand them and explained uncanny things with the dark forces. Luckily, we don't live in the Middle Ages and we now have many different ways to help and understand people with mental disorders today. Still, the medieval interpretation and fear of those illnesses have inspired many artists. The unexplained and unexplainable in pathologic states of the mind have fueled the imagination of the dark romantic and created their own dark mythology - werewolves, vampires and other monsters of dark fantasy are the result. So this video is about the lineart drawing process of my "Moon Girl". It shows you the drawing process step by step so you can see how to create strong lineart. The drawing shows a vamp girl on the roofs of the city, behind her a full moon. She reminds me a lot of a comic villain, like a female version of Joker.
