First real video back and the process was a little rough. So we took a computer power supply unit from the mid 2000's and converted it to a ham radio power supply for my ft-450d. Results were underwhelming with a max 5-10 watts output power. One thing to take into consideration is the fact that we could probably reduce the load, so we can increase power to the radio, but I don't think it's worth playing around too much.

This was an experiment trying to use a set of baofengs to create a full duplex communication over AMSAT SO-50.
The receive end in the video is a Baofeng UV-5R+, and the transmit side was a Baofeng BF-F8HP.
I was able to make some ocntacts, however things did not go as planned. The full duplex did not work as the Recieve end was overloaded.
After the video was made I changed the setup around to see if I could get it working. I am now just waiting for the next Opportunity to try it out again.

Today we will be using the BaoFeng radio UV-5R with a simple audio recorder to capture and decode NOAA 19 weather satellite images. There is no audio interface, just straight recording.
We then use Audacity to re-sample the file to 11025 sample rate in order for our decoder, WXtoIMG to properly decode it into an image.

If you haven't heard of FreeDV, you should check them out. This software allows us to use digital voice codecs on just about any VHF or HF radio with an audio interface. The Baofengs used in the video are the BF-F8HP and the UV5R. You will need a radio, the audio interface, and a computer. The cheaper cable used is the BTECH APRS-K1.

These days you don't need the expensive Pactor modem you used to to decode/encode packets. In this video demonstration I show the basics of using the Winlink express program, as well as the winmor protocol to send an email over HF radio to my gmail and vise versa.

This is a really neat concept, as I was able to communicate with an RMS gateway in Texas to accomplish this while in Kentucky.

So this is a project that I've been working on for a few weeks.
I've never tried anything this ambitious yet, but I'm at the finish line.
It's a SGTC that's powered with a 15kv NST (Neon Sign Transformer).
It has about 980 turns on the secondary, 13 on the primary. When I get it tuned, I expect sparks about 2 feet long.
At this time, the spark gap is only 2 zinc bolts with a fan over top.
Just waiting on a nice day outside to try it out.

I'm going to get some hate on this one. But this is how I feel. The FT3D has worked as a desktop radio for the past few years, but looking back on it, I would have done things differently. I missed the internal TNC that came wit the kenwoods. I missed the durability that came with the FT- series.

Everyone experiences Mic Fright when they first get their amateur radio licence.
Calling CQ for the first time, and keying up for the first time can be a little scary.
So I'm going over what you can do to overcome that fear, giving pointers on what to talk about, and what helped me.
Remember, everyone you are talking to are just people. Don't be afraid to mess something up.
Let me know down below if you have any extra tips you would add to this video.
Thanks for watching and 73 to everyone!
