I recently bought my first swag which was pretty much the smallest swag in the 'Wanderer' range and did the first test of it in my front yard. I had a bit of rain, it was in the middle of winter and all in all it fared quite well. I don't think it's quite sold me as being a replacement for a lightweight tent but it is built to take a bit of punishment so I'm looking forward to putting it through its paces in the months to come.
The Scuderia Ferrari Club Adelaide have been running hire kart events for some time. This year it has evolved into a South Australian State Championship with events and various hire kart venues. Round 2 was held at Xtreme Karts & Leisure near Gawler. I had the opportunity to video one of the finals which was an eventful 40 lap race.
During the day I also had the opportunity to have a conversation with the President of the club who is one of those who made the transition in the last few years from hire kart racing to proper 4 stroke racing in the relatively new 4SS class. Given that this is now a path that I am on, I'm pretty enthusiastic about some of the work this club are doing to encourage others to do the same at an affordable price.

As I'm asked from time to time about some of my interests in the past, I thought I would upload some of my diving vidoes (which are mainly visual) with introductions and perhaps I'll do some commentry in some of them too. This was one I made that was never intended to be uploaded as it was put together from throw away footage in bad visibility when I was testing my sidemount harness. What it does show is that even though this was only the third dive I did with it (and it was before I ever took it into an overhead environment), the potential was clearly evident and I never went back to backmount diving in a cave after diving in it.

Fossil Cave is an underwater cave located in Mount Gambier, South Australia. It gets its name from the large number of extinct animal bones that were discovered there in the 1970's whilst it was being surveyed. It's now more known for its crystal-clear water and interesting topography but you can still see the pickets around which the survey grid was attached.
I've also included some footage taken by Ryan Kaczkowski showing the passage that was found a few years ago as he squeezes through it! Not one for the faint hearted.

Approaching the end of the Go Kart Season I was thinking pretty hard about what our direction was going to be for next year. Was I going to continue in 4SS or go to Tag Masters. If we stayed in 4SS was it going to be with a commitment to try to get to optimal weight for medium or did I go up to heavy by adding weight?
To help me decide I put weight on for the first time and entered in heavy for the last South Australian go kart meet of the year which was a Kartsport meet at Barossa. Kartsport, as I'll explain in the video, is a more laid-back type of competition (compared to Karting South Australia) but I knew of at least 3 other drivers who I regularly raced against in KSA meets, who were also doing it so it felt like nothing had really changed in terms of the opposition. What did change however was the weather. The heavy rain would turn everything upside down... or would it?
What actually happened was we found out we had massively good pace and it provided us with the best opportunity of the year to get a good result. Unfortunately, the first 2 heats out of the 5 heats ended up being DNF's and again I will talk about that in the video. The 3rd had promise but a stuck throttle cable took me out of contention in the middle of the race. We did however finish off the day with 2 really good races and everything came together in the final for my first win.
Also, in this video I talk briefly about the surprise we got at the Karting SA presentation dinner when we walked away with a trophy that was unexpected. As to next year the decision is that I will continue to race in 4SS but race with the heavy weight drivers.

To finish off my series on basic content creation I thought I would do a video on how to make a video on a Smartphone using Apps that you can download. This is what I use to do raw 'Vlog Style' videos when I am out and about and with a bit of work (if you want to) you can actually polish them to a level beyond that to be pretty good.
I talk briefly about some of the different editors and then show you specifically how I use VN Video Editor to put something together in just a few minutes. Like everything, you get out what you put in so if you want to work on the finer details there are plenty of tools to help you do that. This is merely a brief introduction to get you started like the other videos in this series.
Lastly, I will introduce you to another app called PixelLab which can be used to create thumbnail images to help your video stand out.

In this Vlog I'm keeping it real in my front yard again. I also visit one of my local outdoor stores and buy some new gear.
I explain my outdoor philosophy when it comes to clothing and equipment. Essentially, I try and keep as much as possible 'idiot proof'. If it can fail (in anything other than perfect circumstances) then sooner or later, it will fail so I try and avoid using such things in anything other than perfect circumstances.

In this Vlog I'm going all Virtual on you and 'keeping it real' in the world of Zwift!
I won't lie, for someone who has spent their whole life being active, the last 12 months it's been less than healthy. Poor drinking and eating habits and exercise that I would describe as token at best. In the last 2 weeks I've started trying to get my act together again and riding on my Smart Trainer on Zwift used to be a big part of that and I'm trying to make it that way again.
What is Zwift? Well, this video is a bit of an introduction into it. It is essentially an app for cyclists and runners. But it's more than that. It's a fully immersive experience in a virtual world while you're doing it. That could mean just going for a casual ride, undertaking any number of solo challenges, taking part in exercise sessions, racing others or doing time trials against the clock. There are so many options. You just put your bike on your smart trainer and transport yourself to virtual environments such as the island of Watopia (the fictional island I used in this video) or recreations of places like New York or London (both with a fair bit of fictitious stuff thrown in mind you).
To be clear, I don't advocate replacing your outdoors riding with Zwift. Not at all. It is definitely preferable to ride in the real world, but when weather or circumstances make it difficult, the convenience of Zwift is a good alternative to stay fit so you can enjoy your outdoors cycling (or running) more when you can do it.
There is also some footage of me struggling on a real hill in South Australia on zero training! I can't say I enjoyed that but you can have a laugh at my expense.
If you like this video let and want to see me punishing myself more on a bike (indoors or outdoors) on the Vlog, let me know.

On the weekend we were 'Keeping it Real' at West Beach Adventure.
What can I say about this place except, it's super fun and you have to try it! I've done many high ropes courses over the years and I've driven past this contraption which is located next to the road at West Beach for years and I'll be honest, I wasn't totally sure what it even was. For an adrenaline junkie like myself, to find out that it's the largest aerial adventure course in Australia was a welcome surprise. There are over 70 challenges you can do and you can experience a leap of faith on a 20m vertical drop or scare yourself on a 3 person Giant Swing. For the less adventurous, enjoy a barista made coffee while taking in the action and stunning views from the Sky Walk. There is also a course for the kids. I bought my Hood 23 which we re-named 'Manumitter' during 2021 which was pretty much the height of the travel restrictions that were imposed at the time. I realized that free and easy travel around the globe was going to be put on hold for some time. I'm not getting into what my opinion is on this as it makes no difference but I my way of life revolves around some level of freedom so my boat, even though it doesn't even have enough room to stand up in it below decks, gives me the ability to go places where I am free. I don't care how cold or unpleasant it can be. Being exposed to the elements makes me feel alive. 'Manumitter' has brought me much joy during a difficult period for many people.
As it happened in this video the weather was very mild and we were mostly under motor. It was a beautiful evening. There is an entire series on Sailing 'Manumitter' on my main channel which you can find via this link:
