Humorous Phases of Funny Faces is a 1906 short silent animated cartoon directed by James Stuart Blackton and generally regarded by film historians as the first animated film recorded on standard picture film.
In the cartoon, animated hand-drawn scenes appear on a chalkboard, such as a clown playing with a hat and a dog jumping through a hoop. In the beginning, though, the cartoonist's hands are included, too, as he draws the first several lines on the chalkboard in standard live action. From there, the stop-motion technique is used to show what appears to be drawings completing—and then moving—by themselves with no artist on screen.

These include a saddle belonging to William F Cody (aka Buffalo Bill), 'fertility plates' brought back from Tibet by Edmund Hillary, Edward Carson's rifle and a fan used by Marie Antoinette.
In 2010, BBC Northern Ireland presenter Gerry Anderson launched an appeal to try to find out what happened to these objects.

In the brilliant sunshine of Athens, the royal couple are welcomed by King Paul and Queen Frederica of Greece at the start of their week-long visit to the city. The streets are lined with cheering crowds and officials in national dress as the royal couple tour Athens and go sightseeing at the Acropolis. The report ends with stunning images of the Parthenon at sunset.
It would be very rare to enjoy such a quiet visit to the Acropolis today, as it attracts 500,000 visitors a year. As part of the huge restoration project, ongoing since the 1970s, the sculptures seen on the monuments in this film have been removed to the Acropolis Museum and replaced by casts.

King George VI's final farewell to his eldest daughter.
As Princess Elizabeth and the Duke of Edinburgh prepare to fly to Kenya on a tour of the Commonwealth, they are waved off by King George VI, Queen Elizabeth (later known as the Queen Mother) and Princess Margaret, as well as former Prime Minister Winston Churchill. After suffering an illness during the previous year, King George is greeted enthusiastically by the crowds. This would be his last public appearance.
This trip was meant to be the first part of a 30,000-mile journey across four continents. The royal couple had planned to go on to Australia and New Zealand, but King George VI died only five days after this farewell at the airport. The intended journey finally took place in 1954, after Princess Elizabeth had become Queen.

Amis met Philip Larkin in 1941, when they both went up to St John's College, Oxford, to read English. They quickly established a close friendship that lasted throughout their lives (in 1985, Amis gave the address at Larkin's funeral) and had a profound influence on their literary careers.
