I took a cab out to the Columbia River to catch a sunrise. Alas! It was too cloudy to see the sun. I seized the opportunity of being out there to film practically every other item in my surrounding. Here's a small taste.
Playing with the new macro lens. Both the ants and eye were about a 1/4 inch from the end of the lens. Special thanks to Forrest Brennan for helping shoot this (and his eye).

I nabbed me that sunrise I'd been seeking. It's been so cloudy in Portland lately, that it's practically impossible to see the glowing object of desire. I also went down to Forest Park (one of the largest urban forests in the US), and included some clips from that day as well. The reading is an excerpt from a foreword proceeding On Baile's Strand, which is a part of a compilation called Eight Great Tragedies, published 1957.

With 'Three Claps' we do our best to stray away from giving any major spoilers outside of our leading subject matter. In other words: Please have watched 'Boogie Nights' before listening to/watching this episode. Brought in a new friend this time around. Where's Sean? He'll be back next time.
About our 6th episode...
Axel says: I have a hard time picking a "favorite movie" but for the past four-ish years this movie is the one that comes to mind first. It takes me on a whole roller coaster of emotion, and then crashes, and I love it. It's sexy and ugly and traumatizing and beautiful in all the right ways.
Montetré says: Real happy to be talking about this episode. It's difficult to find a more pitch perfect film. It's so dirty in all of the right ways. I didn't realize there was a director's cut out there. Who knew? Regardless, this movie is so damn smart. BN probably has the most re-watch value out of all the movies reviewed on our episodes so far, whatever that means. If you haven't seen it either before or lately you're doing yourself a disservice. It's such a booster shot of all the feels. I'm happy that it exists.

With 'Three Claps' we do our best to stray away from giving any major spoilers outside of our leading subject matter. In other words: Please have watched 'Somewhere in Time' before listening to/watching this episode. There's an alright book, too. You could read. Nobody reads, right? Well, there's an audio book too. Don't stress out. It's cool. Movies are easier. Watch the movie.
About our 5th episode...
Sean says: Gonna act as cockblock for my friend Montetré who has a hard crush on a clingy, needy, drunk little movie called Somewhere In Time. He can't see this flick for what it is. But I am older, wiser in the ways of celluloid love, and I'm not looking at this thing through a rose tinted Edwardian era flat screen. I see it for the cheap little tart it is... being a faded cheap tart myself. But the music really is beautiful! And for $3.99 it might be worth it to spend 90 minutes alone with it. What happens in your Amazon rental history stays in your Amazon rental history. Montetré probably won't even be jealous. Probably.
Montetré says: I'm too big a fan of this flick. After seeing it for the first time a few years back, it really stuck with me. In the podcast I went on a bit about why, but I did forget to mention that the whole film has a pretty cool connection to Gustav Mahler. They wanted to but couldn't use his music, or anything from John Barry that might be inspired by it, because Mahler's pieces are simply too damn long and complicated for a 90-minute movie. With the book it doesn't matter so much, so Mahler is mentioned there. In the book it talks about Mahler's 9th Symphony being the main character's favourite piece of music. If you haven't heard it his 9th before, you really should! Anyway, John Barry went with a Rachmaninoff inspired score, in addition to his Rach's Rhapsody that plays throughout.
