Friends of Science Society’s 18th Annual Event, online, is pleased to present Marc Morano, author, speaker and climate activist at Climate Depot, as our second speaker on Oct. 6, at 7pm MDT. Marc has made a name for himself at UN Conference of the Parties (COP) meetings around the world, staging his hilarious politically incorrect street theatre exposés of the hypocrisy of the green set. He has published several books on climate change, the most recent being “Green Fraud: Why the Green New Deal Is Even Worse than You Think”. Marc’s presentation “Green New Deal: The Great Regret” will review some of his previous work on the “Climate Monarchy” and “Climate Hustle” (both very popular movies) and will show the incredible contradictions inherent in climate dogma. And – as a warning – the climate activists now want you to have a personal carbon RATION. Join us on Oct. 7, 2021 at 7pm MDT for Marc Morano – and participate in the live Q&A after the presentation! ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m8fS2DTs2Y4
Climate policies are limited because they are shrouded in a 'climate of fear' - consequently open, civil debate has been stymied. Robert Lyman is an energy economist. He is a former federal public servant of 27 years, diplomat for 10 years. Robert explains that politicians are also afraid of being called a 'climate denier' in this atmosphere of fear - so evidence-based assessments are not being done. We are being asked to accept the premise that governments can set the standards for you, rather than your choice. Another premise is that Canadian sacrifices for climate will somehow affect global emissions, when that is not the case. Emissions will grow due to the growth in developing/emerging nations. The public must make their voices heard, get involved and tell people of influence that they value the quality of life and standard of living and we don't want to see that threatened by climate policies, that will have no marginal effect on global emissions. A month ago Friends of Science expressed concerns about the likelihood of conflict between Russia and Ukraine; this has come to pass. This video explains that Prof. Cliff Mass has pointed out that the muddy season has arrived in the Ukraine, which will likely change tactics on the ground, as it is hard to move heavy artillery and foot soldiers in such conditions. The video goes on to discuss that fact that Europe and especially Germany allowed themselves to become highly reliant on Russian oil and gas, which has given Russia a powerful geopolitical lever in its dispute with the Ukraine and NATO. Some research indicates that Russia funded environmental groups (ENGOs) to push for the use of Russia energy for European states, rather than those states developing their own shale gas or other sources of supply. One source of supply might have been Canada, and in a curious parallel we see that Canada avoided the European "Fuel Quality Directive" that tried to label Alberta oil sands oil as 'dirty' and below EU standards. But just as Canada announced the construction of pipelines in all directions to serve Europe, Asia and the US, within a couple of years, all those pipelines were blocked by ... foreign funded ENGOs. It has been known for many years that carbon dioxide is not the main driver of climate change, so a carbon tax is useless in stopping global warming or climate change. But influential parties like the World Economic Forum and entourage are pushing for a global price on carbon. Some influencers have suggested 'trading for tidewater' - entering cap and trade markets to broker a deal to get pipeline approval. In fact, Alberta was the first place in North America to have a carbon tax on large emitters (but not the public). By contrast to the WEF's view on carbon markets, Russia has never bought into climate hysteria. In terms of climate science, the Russian climate model, which does not rely on carbon dioxide as the main driver of climate change, has been the only one that closely parallels the observed temperatures from satellites and weather balloons. Part of the reason for rising prices for fuel and heating is that oil and gas companies have been reluctant to develop new exploration as the combination of environmental groups driving off banks, insurers, and investors has meant that these companies are sitting back to see what happens. (Developing new fields can take ~30 years and billions of dollars). Likewise, when influential people like Mark Carney, a WEF trustee, threatens corporations with bankruptcy if they don't comply with climate dogma, why would a company risk it? Instead, as more shortages hit, the ordinary people - who are being made poor by carbon taxes - will face extortionary prices for gasoline, home heating...and even if

When award-winning Dutch filmmaker Marijn Poels returned to Europe after living and working in developing nations for about 9 years, he was shocked at the massive biogas crops, wind farms and solar panels that seemed to be displacing conventional farming of food crops. He became very concerned about the risk to food security – something he’d witnessed first hand overseas. As he began making his film, he was appalled to discover that power prices had skyrocketed in Germany due to the subsidies to renewable wind and solar. Some 20% of German population – about 16 million people – are threatened with poverty – and hundreds of thousands have had their power cut off. He found himself interviewing families left to celebrate Christmas with only a single candle. His fundamental question – “Are we doing the right thing?”

Mark Carney, Governor of the Bank of England, was in Canada on July 15, 2016, to make a case for carbon pricing, claiming rising insurance costs are due to climate change extremes. However, Steve Kopits of Princeton Energy Advisors has assessed Mr. Carney's claims in the past and found them to be a 'critical failure of analysis.' Michelle Stirling, Communications Manager for Friends of Science Society, discusses how banks, institutional investors, philanthropic foundations, and ENGOs have gone off on their own tangent on climate change, often making a push for vested interests in renewable energy (or carbon trading) as a solution for a non-existent crisis. The Reece Committee of the 1950's (Special Committee to Investigate Tax Exempt Foundations) examined the dangerous powers of massive foundations and how they could affect society. The topic is further discussed in two new Friends of Science Society reports "Undue Influence-Markets Skewed" and "A Confluence of Carbon baggers."

It seems the health care community has been co-opted into climate dogma at national levels. At COP26 last year in Glasgow, Canada (and other nations) committed to the World Health Organization's (WHO) COP26 climate resilient/sustainability program. But what does this mean for Canadians and our already struggling health care system. It seems to mean that #climate doctors are now more interested in 'planet saving' projects that dealing with real human health care needs. There have been a flurry of recent pre-COP27 news reports from doctors, most of whom are party to the Canadian Association of Physicians for the Environment (CAPE) who are claiming that climate change is the cause of terrible health problems, that we are 'addicted' to fossil fuels, and that this is causing extreme weather events and wildfires. In fact, modern medicine cannot exist without fossil fuel energy to build and run medical facilities, nor can we do without the product stream of everything for modern medicine from massive diagnostic units like MRIs, CT and PET scanners, to operating theatres with the stainless steel equipment, to PPEs - the protective masks and drapings that helped health care workers and patients stay safe through infectious incidents in the COVID pandemic, and in other potentially infectious situations (i.e. open body surgeries, contagious diseases, etc). How is this also related to the fact that OECD nations have trillions of dollars of unfunded pension liabilities? When patients can't get timely care, their lives are shortened. When people in Canada now face painful conditions and long wait lists, the federal government has weakened the laws on Medical Assistance in Dying (MAiD), which in some cases has become the only 'treatment' left for those with no hope of proper care. These topics are explored in this explainer video. Please subscribe to our channel, inform yourself of how climate dogma has entered so many areas of our lives, skewing reality and practicality. Dr. Willie Soon co-authored a report on the Greenpeace Business Model with co-founder of Greenpeace, Dr. Patrick Moore. Dr. Soon discusses the tremendous financial power of Greenpeace and how they use scare campaigns to raise funds and drive supporters. A concerning aspect of Greenpeace is that there does not seem to be any solution that can satisfy them on any issue and in fact, most of their campaigns are not grassroots and not about saving the planet, but rather are contrived to top up the bank account and in the end, these campaigns drive people crazy with fear. Michelle Stirling recounts her experience of being cancelled by the Canadian Mental Health Association (Alberta) on the day of presentation of her approved poster for their virtual conference entitled "Working Stronger - Building Resilient Workplaces in the Face of Challenges" (March 9-10, 2021). Her poster was accepted and approved a month before and was posted online the evening of March 8th. By morning it was gone. Conference organizers indicated some sponsors did not like the poster topic. The topic dealt with "Indoctrination and Demoralization: Climate Change Fears and Alberta's Workforce". The poster showed and explained how the Tar Sands Campaign had destroyed jobs for thousands of Albertans, leading to suicides and driving rifts in society. To add insult to injury, the government had also contracted Climate George, a lifelong anti-oil activist, to do round-table talks under the title of "Alberta Narratives" with counterfactual information about world energy demand. Michelle Stirling is a former employment counsellor and explored themes of ostracism (Kipling D. Williams) and the impact of unemployment (Marie Jahoda) which correlate to Tar Sands Campaign methods of ostracizing, vilifying, denigrating and demoralizing scientific and engineering experts. The activists use misinformed smears about climate change and the oil sands, are often paid by foreign-funding, and the agenda-driven climate activists will never be accountable for the damage they have done, unlike the highly educated Professional Geoscientists and Professional Engineers who are duty bound to protect society.

Will Canada's carbon tax remain static or will it go up - and if so - by how much and by when? Robert Lyman's report discusses the implications of the findings of the Parliamentary Budget Office. Some parties are announcing that the PBO reports generous rebates to taxpayers - but Robert's review of the same report, shows that the PBO says carbon taxes must at least double to meet greenhouse gas reduction targets. And Canadians should not be fooled by the figure of $102 C$/tCO2, because this figure is low! If one reviews the ICPP's SR15 report [https://friendsofscience.org/index.php?id=2412] (see Figure 1) it shows that to keep below 1.5 °C, their best estimate is 880 US$/tCO2, or 1536 C$/tCO2 in 2030, steadily increasing to 7,000 US$/tCO2, or 9270 C$/tCO2 in 2100. With numbers like this, it's clear why the US pulled out of the Paris Agreement - which is not legally binding to begin with. Dr. Madhav Khandekar, former Environment Canada researcher and scientific advisor to Friends of Science discusses how climate change is a giant puzzle with many parts. A very big part is the monsoon cycle affecting some 3-4 billion people. Developing nations have a right to reliable energy from coal; that's where most CO2 emissions occur in the world. Reduction of human carbon dioxide emissions will not affect climate change.
