Bob Pinnegar, the president and CEO of the National Apartment Association (NAA), argued on "Cavuto: Coast to Coast" on Thursday that "the backbone of the nation’s rental housing stock" is at risk with the latest eviction moratorium.
Pinnegar was referring to independent rental owners who own a building with one to four units, which he noted is more than half of the America’s housing stock at 53%.
Last week, NAA filed a lawsuit in the U.S. Court of Federal Claims to recover damages on behalf of rental housing providers that have "suffered severe economic losses under the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s overreaching federal eviction moratorium," according to a news release.
The association, which claims to be the first to take legal action seeking compensation for the policy, argues that the federal eviction moratorium "jeopardizes the long-term viability of housing infrastructure and sets a dangerous precedent for future disaster-response measures."

In an effort to stem the flow of illegal immigration into the United States, Mexico has adopted a controversial strategy of repeatedly transporting migrants back to southern Mexico, effectively wearing them down. This new tactic, involving multiple relocations, aims to discourage migrants from continuing their journey northward. Under pressure from the U.S. to reduce illegal crossings, Mexican authorities have intensified efforts, leading to a significant drop in border crossings—down 40% from December's peak. This approach has sparked debate over its ethics and effectiveness, with many migrants enduring harsh conditions and exploitation by local law enforcement. While this method temporarily eases the burden on U.S. border security, it raises serious humanitarian concerns about the treatment of migrants and the long-term viability of such measures.

As urban centers battle with escalating homeless crises, legal action seems to be emerging as the newest strategy in the playbook. One Portland homeowner, tired of a life hemmed in by makeshift camps and thwarted attempts to sell his property, is ready to bring the city of Portland to court. A sign of the times, perhaps, when citizens feel compelled to draw judicial swords to clear the muck of municipal inaction.
For some time now, cities like Portland have indulged in the whack-a-mole game of 'cleaning up' - moving homeless camps from one area to another. It's like rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic, serving only to shift the problem elsewhere. Of course, the downtown core gets spruced up, providing a veneer of control. Yet, for outlying areas and their residents, this results in an influx of homelessness, creating a dire predicament. Meanwhile, the city still falls short on providing sufficient resources for homeless removal, leaving citizens like our disgruntled homeowner feeling cornered.
Despite the city's promises of action and enforcement of daytime camping bans, the harsh reality remains - the encampments persist, and the properties they surround struggle to find buyers. For homeowners hoping to escape the downward spiral of their neighborhoods, they're left dealing with the aftermath of policies gone awry. The question now lingers, how many more frustrated homeowners will follow suit, seeking legal justice against city halls?

Walmart may be a company beloved by shoppers for its convenience and low prices, but it's not entirely immune to coming under fire for missteps. Some have cited the store charging certain customers more than they should. Others take issue with the retailer's well-intentioned single-use bag policy. And some have called out the company for its sudden shift towards anti-theft tactics that ruin the shopping experience. And now, in the latest instance, Walmart is getting slammed for its new delivery service that critics claim violates their policy. Read on to see why customers are upset with the retailer now.

LYNNWOOD, Wash. — A contentious debate in Lynnwood reached a stalemate Monday night over the planned location for an addiction treatment center.
Despite pushback from concerned parents, Acadia Health attempted to clear its final hurdle for approval to open its opioid treatment clinic just steps away from the Alderwood Boys and Girls Club, an after-school program for kids and teens.
Although Snohomish County makes up only 10% of the state's population, county data shows they now account for more than 18% of the heroin-related deaths statewide. As such, company Acadia Health said drug addiction clinics are badly needed in Lynnwood.
Still, protestors at Monday night's Lynnwood City Council meeting said that they are more concerned about location than anything else.
"I feel like this location is... crazy," said one public commenter at the podium.
"Safety," Jou Hou, a protester, told KING 5. " Yeah. The safety is our priority. It's the wrong location because it's too close to our kids."
Acadia Health is one of Snohomish County's largest treatment centers. On January 23, it plans to relocate its Bothell facility to Lynnwood on H. If it receives final approval from the state, the center would host an estimated 300 patients and it would be one of few local clinics that administers methadone, a medication for opioid dependence.

Google has rolled out a new “inclusive language” function that is intended to steer its users away from what it deems to be politically incorrect words, like “landlord” and “mankind.”
Google Docs introduced the “woke” feature this month that shows pop-up warnings to people typing in words or phrases considered to be non-inclusive, such as “policeman,” “fireman” or “housewife.”
The online word processor’s algorithm will alert them that their chosen terms “may not be inclusive to all readers” and then goes a step further by suggesting alternative, more inclusive words to use.

As millions of renters across America continue to benefit from sweeping protections against eviction during the COVID-19 pandemic, their landlords haven't been so fortunate.
According to Bloomberg, nearly $47 billion in rent relief from the Biden Administration has been slow to materialize, forcing "mom-and-pop" landlords into financial hardship - or forced to sell to wealthy investors. Bloomberg, perhaps to invoke sympathy for the landlord class, focused on the impact felt by minority landlords.

In his latest comments on Portland, HBO’s Bill Maher touched on the topic of police, and referred to the departure of Portland police officers as “a cautionary tale,” warning, “We do not want to live in a world without police. Then it’s ‘The Purge’ every night.”
During the most recent episode of “Real Time with Bill Maher,” the host said he was heartened to see members of law enforcement testify in the murder trial of former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin, and be willing to criticize Chauvin for kneeling on the neck of George Floyd for more than nine minutes. Maher was encouraged, he said, to see police “finally testifying against their own.”
