2 Days Before shooting this video I hurt the thumb muscle on my right hand. It's not broken and the muscle isn't ripped but it has been sore for two days. I need it to be back in perfect working order in a few short hours and neither cold or heat, taking ibuprofen to reduce the swelling or ointments alone are working. It's time to work the muscle out and see if self "physical therapy" will do the trick.
IMPORTANT NOTE:
I'm not a doctor, medical practitioner or anyone of authority regarding anything health or medical related. I'm merely showing you what has worked for me in the past for pure entertainment value. Nothing I say or do is intended to be taken seriously or followed. Proceed with caution and doing anything you see in this video is on your own free will and at your own risk. In short, it's not advised and I'm not responsible if you hurt yourself. Strong enough disclaimer? Ok, just click off this video, delete it from your history and forget you ever saw it. Enough now?

Having played with Adobe Podcast AI's speech enhancer I'm expecting mediocre performance but hoping for the best when it comes to their Mic Check tool. In this video I run it through it's paces.

When recording outside of a studio it's much more difficult to get clean audio than it is when recording inside a studio. The world is a noisy place and while many sounds can be controlled and shut down, there may be others that you have to live with. Loud sound sources (like traffic) that the Director wants in the shot or a pretty fountain in front of where you're podcasting from may make it difficult to get clean dialogue since you can't shut it off but there are things you can do to reduce that background noise in your audio tracks. In this video, I'll share with you a key technique you can use to do just that.
Note: If there are loud sound sources above talent, under micing may not be the best option as that could pick up more undesired sounds than you'd be baffling out.

In this video I give the Monster Clarity 101 Airlinks Earbuds a listen. I run thru the basic features and describe my experience with them.
To read my review on Amazon:
https://www.amazon.com/review/R36Z0JET1CVACR/ref=pe_1098610_137716200_cm_rv_eml_rv0_rv
I've come to learn since doing this review that the reason they were lit up inside the case is because the case charges the earbuds when not in use thru an internal battery that should be enough to recharge the 7 hour battery life on the earbuds at least 3 times.
To purchase pair for yourself, please consider using this affiliate link: https://geni.us/MonsterEarbuds
Using that link supports the channel. You'll pay the same price that you'd pay on Amazon otherwise but Amazon will pay me a small referral fee for sending you there to purchase.

Monster did reimburse me for this pair of Clarity 101 Airlinks in exchange for a fair review. I do get to keep it following the review but I'm not going to allow them to influence my review in any way so you can expect it to be an honest review.

I recently moved and have a new recording space. While I'm designing and building a new background, I decided I would go ahead and upgrade to proper studio monitors. And if you're wondering, YES I did purchase all of these items with my own money. Nothing was given to me, offered at a discount or offered in exchange for anything.
It didn't take me long to decide on Adam Audio A7Xs and the Adam Audio Sub8 to go along with it because of the features, detail and clarity. Instead of floor stands I opted for the IsoAcoustics ISO-155 and IsoAcoustics ISO-200 to hold them at the right height next to my computer monitor. As a monitor controller, I went with the ESI MoCo Passive Studio Monitor Controller. Since my soldering kit is in storage, I decided to try the "World's Best Cables" star quad XLR cables made with Mogami cable and Neutrik connectors. There are links to all of these items below:

Boom ops listen for any and all sounds that prevent clean dialogue recording. How though? Aren't they too busy on set trying to position the boom? Yes and no.
Now that we've discussed all the different kinds of sound that can keep you from recording clean dialogue, how about we continue the discussion with recording clean dialogue and another kind of sound that prevents you from doing that? This is not a rehash of what we already covered but rather a continuation targeting those sounds that would be recorded over the dialogue itself.

About a month ago I got a new beast mode Windows 10 editing PC. As much as I love it there was one issue I could not find a solution for online - the audio was popping and crackling. Being an audio guy, you can imagine how much this irritated me.
I searched far and wide on the internet and almost every article I read went thru the same list but nothing fixed it. Every YouTube video I watched, same thing. In order to fix the sound, I would have to figure it out for myself. It's been nearly 15 years since I was a computer tech and Windows has changed a lot since then so I had to brainstorm.
After a few weeks, I finally figured out an easy solution that worked and after nearly 2 weeks, I'm proud to say that I no longer have crackling and popping audio. I hope this fix works for you too.

As Boom Operators we face many challenges on set. As the sole member of the sound department on a film set we have to represent our department and make decisions that mean clean dialogue recording for the Sound Mixer to deliver to post. Knowing how to make our Sound Mixer happy is absolutely critical!
Sound Mixers are all different and it's our job as Boom Operators to get our mixer the tracks he/she desires. Every mixer is different so the way we perform from mixer to mixer has to be flexible. Understanding how to please a Sound Mixer is critical and in this video, we'll talk about how to do just that.
