2018-11-09 In this installment of the live sound basics series, we are looking at VCAs. Starting with the fundamentals as usual, we're looking at analog VCAs using the stick-on modules from Radio Design labs. We talk about how they work & how they relate to the DCA groups we use on modern digital mixing consoles. @DcSoundOp on social media or on the website @ http://www.dcsoundop.com for more info.

Carrying cable testers can be frustrating, especially when the functionality you really need isn't included in most of them. Being able to generate & monitor signals on the go is really the functionality I use most, with cable testing only being relevant if it is faster than swapping the cable out on the fly.
A common solution is the SoundTools Sniffer/Sender for quick testing and verification of the most common cables (XLR & NL-4) paired with a Whirlwind Q-box for monitoring the audio coming down a line. This also allows you to generate tone & inspect signals easily using headphones. These are both incredibly popular tools with functionality that the Sound Bullet is not designed to replace. What it gives us is options and a fresh approach to some common tasks we run into daily.

Some weeks just don't cooperate and the days leading up to travel for trade shows seem to go by extra quick. This should have been a full First Look at the @PreSonus Audio Electronics Quantum 4848, but nature didn't cooperate and we'll have to dive back into that when this show is over. If you have questions or things you would like to know more about with the 4848, let me know and I'll do my best to include them in the next video on it.
Find the 4848 here - https://amzn.to/2NKmoNN

In this video we're taking on an easy usb controller project that you can make at home and customize to fit your workflow. There are loads of projects like this online, on YouTube and I wanted to show one here on the channel. A quick two button play and stop controller is a great project that can be made to work with any software.
Leave a question below if you have one, all of the stuff you see in the video is linked below and on the website @ https://www.dcsoundop.com

** EDIT - I absolutely made a mistake in stating that the more expensive SuperCAT Sound cable was required to use the CatTails - while the individual shielding simply allows it to be terminated to individual tails if needed. Thanks to Chris Rettger for catching my mistake! **
03-30-18 - In this video we look at the SoundTools Cat Box snake system and their custom SuperCAT CAT5e cable designed specifically for use in production environments.
