The Body in the Library Part 1 - Death of the Reader
We discuss chapters 1-8 of Agatha Christie's 'The Body in the Library', the second novel to feature Miss Jane Marple. After a frightful dream, Dolly Bantry awakes to find a body, in her library! A young dancer from a club on the coast nearby, strangled, just hours after she was last seen entertaining one Conway Jefferson. A clown-car of cops begin to follow the leads on this grizzly case, until Colonel Arthur Bantry decides that simply isn't enough investigators, and summons Sir Henry Clithering, who summons Miss Jane Marple. I'm sure one of these people will be able to figure it out!

We discuss chapters 1-15 of Benjamin Stevenson's phenomenal 2022 metafictional mystery, 'Everyone in my Family has Killed Someone'. Ernest Cunningham is a writer of murder-mystery how-to books, and is already Flex's new best friend because he put the Knox Decalogue at the start of his book. Summoned to a family reunion in the mountains, Ern takes us on a tour of the terrible misdeeds his family has gotten up to, and, he promises, how it leads into the mysterious murder at said reunion. Armed with a list of the page count of each death, a vehicular warning, and a promise, it's up to you to see if your murder mystery gumption can keep up with Ern's.
Thank you to Penguin Australia for providing copies of the book.

We discuss the Fourth through Seventh stories in Sins for Father Knox by Josef Škvorecký; A Question of Alibis, Why So Many Shamuses, Miscarriage of Justice, and The Mathematicians of Grizzly Drive. Following Eve Adam's travels from Sweden to San Francisco and beyond, the crimes continue to tail her, with the sins against Father Ronald Knox hot on their tails. As the crimes get more convoluted, can Flex keep up or will he finally be left in the dust by the story? We also chat with Adam Graham from The Great Detectives of Old Time Radio, a monumental podcast collection of the world's best detective fiction radio dramas.

We discuss both of the Guy Ritchie Sherlock movies starring Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law as Sherlock and Watson. With his signature stylings comfortably at home with the swashbuckling hijinks of Conan Doyle’s famous duo, Guy Ritchie dishes out one great film and a film. Whilst the first film proves a thoroughly enjoyable romp, the few problems it had seem only to exacerbate themselves in the sequel. We talk whether or not it’s worth watching both, the strengths of the movies, and rank our favourite Sherlock Holmes adaptations after viewing the entire ‘Holy Trinity’ of modern Conan Doyle adaptations.

We discuss chapters 10-12 of The Sign of The Four by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. It seems as though this book will be wrapped up neatly, until we take a sharp left turn and end up in 18th Century India. Flex and Herds once again must tackle blatant racism in an old murder mystery, can we finally put the topic to bed? Definitely not! Yet there is still merit to this ancient tale written far before our time. All is revealed and we discuss the popularity of murder mystery subgenre, outlining what Herds likes to call ‘the cycle of murder mystery’.
