Looking at some PinePhone distributions and a closer look at postmarketOS
I just wanted to make a short video, but somehow it became really long: There is so much to ramble on about, and so much that can go wrong with the nascent distributions for the #PinePhone.
In this video I take a look at:
- Ubuntu Touch by #UBports,
- Sailfish OS,
- Mobian,
- PureOS,
- Maemo Leste,
- Sxmo,
and, last but not least a longer look at Plasma Mobile and Phosh builds of postmarketOS.

avmultiphone-mate-desktop-linux-on-the
AVMultiPhone is a different beast from all the Plasma Mobile, Phosh or even Hildon (Maemo Leste) based distributions for the PinePhone: It features the MATE Desktop Environment, which never was designed with Phones in mind.
Being build on postmarketOS, this quirky OS which works way better than I would have expected, unfortunately hasn't seen a release since July 1st, and upgrading currently breaks it. That aside, if you just want a distribution to use Kodi or LibreOffice with, it is definitely worth a try.

A short video on how to upgrade the Quectel EG25-G Modem Firmware with postmarketOS edge.
This was done on a fresh microSD card install of postmarketOS edge with Phosh.
The command to install GNOME Firmware is
`sudo apk add gnome-firmware-updater`.
Before then navigating through the app to install the Firmware, make sure that your phone is decently charged (battery above 50%) AND plugged into power to not suffer a power loss while updating firmware.
The process took about 6 Minutes in total, and then a "Success" message appeared:

After a long work day, let's have a really brief, poorly prepared and rambly look at the Xiaomi Pocophone F1, a Snapdragon 845 powered phone, that now also does phone calls with postmarketOS Edge (and thus can definitely be called a Linux Phone, running Linux 5.17.0-sdm845).

Please note: This does not make the PinePhone Pro a bad choice – no notch alone makes it somewhat nicer. Also, it's supported by more mainline Linux distributions, and it can do Display Out over USB-C DisplayPort Alt mdoe, which the Pocophone F1 will never support, because Xiaomi wanted to save a few bucks. (BTW: Same thing with the OnePlus 6/6T, OnePlus tried to save money, too.)

You know Mobian, but did you know that it can also run on the Purism Librem 5?
In this video I demo Mobian on the Librem 5, based on the mobian-librem5-phosh-20210319.img nightly image.
The procedure of flashing Mobian to the Librem 5 is described on https://wiki.mobian-project.org/doku.php?id=librem5&s[]=librem5, the specific flash command I used was `./scripts/flash-image --board librem5r4 --dir mobian`.
