The Most Dangerous River in the World
When you think of a deadly river what first comes to mind? White water rapids, sharp, jagged rocks, plummeting waters with a torrent of power, that sums it up right? It’s usually quite easy to spot a dangerous river that one should stay away from. Powerful rapids like this will easily pull you under and may take up to minutes before it spits you back out up to the surface a good deal of distance down the river.
The strid in the English County of North Yorkshire doesn’t look all the threatening but don’t let this death trap fool you. The Strid is a section of the River Wharfe which measures between 30 ft or 9 meters in width to just a few feet or 1 meter in width. This section of the 65 mile or 104 km River Wharfe has been labeled by local authorities as dangerous to enter with signs posted alarming everyone of its risks. This river at first glance is very odd because the water is black, this is due to its extreme depth. If you look at how this river goes from being decently wide to incredibly narrow this is where the danger comes in. All the water has to go somewhere, usually this narrowing will create rapids thus indicating danger to the average person. The strid though is calm with virtually no rapids, in some areas, appearing as a peaceful, calm stream in fact just under the surface is a outburst of water current that moves downwards. Other areas of the Strid have normal rapids you’d expect but even though don’t look all that menacing. As the river narrows becomes deeper almost if the river is turning on it’s side. The force is pushed down instead of up so when someone jumps in, they are essentially sucked straight down and never seen again.
There have been numerous deaths, believed to be in the 100s, in the river but no one really knows how many. It has been stated a newlywed couple took a dip in the river after their wedding, never to be seen again. Some people have claimed to swim in the river on the much calmer portion downstream but no proof has been provided. Currently at this time this river has a reported 100% fatality rate, not one single person who has entered the river in the narrow section has come out alive. The current isn’t the only dangerous element, as you’ve probably noticed the rocks are smooth with sharp changes of direction in them so it’s likely someone would be dragged under and bashed around on the rocks as well. No one knows how deep it is as any piece of equipment ever used to measure the distance to the bottom was carried away with the current. It is believed that there are underwater caves and tunnels which is where anyone who enters gets sucked into. While friends challenge each other to jump the channel, one slip and say goodbye.

Today we cover the fastest land animals on earth. Usain bolt and Donovan Bailey don't look so fast when next to these animals. Now for this list we are specifically covering animals that live on land and don't fly. This also excludes water animals as they'll get their own list. The reason we are leaving out birds is they would dominate the top 10 so they'll also get they own list. This list includes the fastest animals in the world and not from a specific region.

In the middle of Taipei is a mind boggling memorial that’ll make you feel the size of an ant. The democratic nation of Taiwan has a complicated history that continues to shape the action of today. On this episode we’ll take a look at this Taipei’s Enormous Dictator Memorial.
The National Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall was built in memory of Chiang Kai-shek, former President of the Republic of China. This landmark, located in the Zhongzheng District of Taipei, Taiwan will leave in you awe as your eyes first take in the sight. The building and ground space this national monument occupies is enormous. Upon entering through the main gate, immediately to your left and right are two massive buildings. The National Theater and National Concert Hall are the huge orange roofed buildings with the memorial hall being the taller white building with a blue roof at the end of a long walkway.
The site sprawls across 59 acres or 240,000 square meters of land. The memorial hall itself is 76 meters or 249 feet tall with that construction starting in 1976 and completing in 1980. The two sets of white stairs leading up to the building’s opening have exactly 89 steps which represent Chiang Kai-shek’s age when he passed. The doors to the memorial hall are outrageous to say the least, these doors are 52 feet or 16 meters tall as weigh as much as 11 african elephants.
Inside the main chamber honour guards stand fixed in position for 1 hour at a time before switching with another guard. A ceremony has the multiple honour guards walking rigidly, spinning their guns among other things as they hand off the position in the hall. There is also a second entrance into the Memorial Hall at ground level that has some of Chiang’s possessions on display like a calligraphy, uniforms and 2 bulletproof cadillacs. I guess that was his car of choice. If that isn’t enough action for you there is a flag lowering ceremony at 5:00pm every day.

Do you have a dog that has an endless desire to play fetch? No matter how many times you throw the ball little buttons wants another throw, on this episode we’ll take a look at the dog fetch machine.
On the market today are a couple dog fetching machines like the iFetch Automatic Ball Launcher and iDogmate Ball launcher. The way this invention came about is quite simple, Grant Hamill invented iFetch after being continually interrupted from doing his homework by his dog wanting to play fetch. These contraptions are simple, train your dog to drop the ball into the iFetch or iDogmate and they will either be shot out a short distance for small dogs by just using gravity or for medium and large dogs a motor will propel the ball.

Did you know within and around the city of Hong Kong are cemeteries built on the tops of mountains. On this episode, we take you on a journey to the peaks where Hong Kong’s loved ones rest.
The cemeteries of hong kong are built on the tops of mountains, now the reason for this is so that deceased loved ones can be as close as possible to the sky or heaven. Now the cemetery was originally built at the top of the mountain and worked their way down as they needed more space but by the 1970s they were running out of land in Hong Kong. They are no longer building anymore of these cemeteries, but the ones that stand are impressive and they are permanent.
Loved ones of the deceased will come to the gravesite a few times a year to pay their respects to their lost family member. Gravestones are first washed clean, all debris is removed and the grave is prepared for the offerings. The offerings are usually in the form of fake, money, red pockets, even fake clothing and real food. The offerings are given to the lost family member by burning them in a tin at the gravesite. Food brought to the grave is usually favorites foods of the deceased. Now there are multiple of these cemeteries in Hong Kong. This one shown here is from the Tseung Kwan O Chinese Permanent Cemetery.
Now you must be wondering, how do they move the tombstones and caskets up and down these stairs as they can weigh 100s of pounds. They have special vehicle that can drive up the stairs for the tomb and for everything else it’s brought up by hand. Now getting a grave plot is complicated and expensive. The public cemetery only allows one to rest there for 6 years before being cremated and making room for someone new. A plot on the mountain can be rented for a maximum of 10 years at a cost of $1000 per year afterwards the remains will be cremated.
Land shortages in the 1970’s in Hong Kong forced a ban on new burial sites so if you’re looking for a permanent spot on the mountain it’s only possible through 1 of 2 ways. 1 you are a member of a church that has a plot, which at one point was free now they are rare and cost around $400,000 or 2 someone already on the mountain is removed and cremated and the plot is sold, for around $30,000 which is incredibly rare. Many have opted to have family member rest in nearby Shenzhen, which is a part of mainland China, at a cost of $65,000.
