How to identify the Boeing F/A-18E/F Super Hornet https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HklHNtnUMSc
The F/A-18 Hornet developed from the Northrop YF-17 Cobra and competed with the F-16 Fighting Falcon in the USAF lightweight fighter competition. A competition won by the F-16. The U.S Navy decided on a heavily modified version of the YF-17 for aircraft carrier use. This became the F/A-18 Hornet.
The Hornet like the Fighting Falcon was light, cheap and agile. These qualities, coupled with its immense ordnance load, made it a capable fighter for both the Navy and the Marines.
The F/A-18 has a digital control-by-wire flight control system which provides excellent handling qualities and allows for exceptional maneuverability.
While the Super Hornet has replaced the F/A-18 Hornet with the United States Navy it continues to serve with the United States Marine Corps and air forces across the world.
