Woodland Photography | Fog, Trees & Details | Worcestershire | Geoff Moore Photography
More opportunity for foggy woodland photography presented it self recently, and with a few hours spare I made my way down to the local river and woodland to photograph the trees and details in the early morning mist and fog that was hugging the meadows and woodland either side of river Avon in Pershore.
Although I didn't find the image I was looking for, I made use of my tried and tested process to come away with a series of images that I really enjoyed taking. Photographing woodland is one of the hardest genres of landscape photography for me personally. Finding compositions in the chaos of a woodland landscape can be a daunting prospect. It's about looking, taking your time and trying to create a little bit of order in a wild, chaotic environment. More often than not its the details that are more important rather than the bigger vision.
Let me know in the comments below you struggles in woodland photography and how you overcome these challenges in the comments below.
In the short video I visit Croome Court in Worcestershire, UK and get some images as the mid morning sun breaks through the clouds and spills on to the wider landscape of the croome estate whilst illuminating Croome House and the Rotunda against a backdrop of blue and grey clouds. This is also a tale of caution of wanting for more and getting more than you wished for as the clouds thickened and the landscape was plunged into darkness and rain, whilst producing my favorite image from the days photography.
If you like my content please give it a thumbs up and comment, do you like the final dark image as much as me? or is one of the lighter ones your favorite?
As a general update: Hello all and Happy New Year, to all my friends, subscribers, and those people who leave comments on my little corner of Youtube. Despite the struggles of the world I know many of you have managed to still get out and produce some outstanding photography and perhaps in locations and scenes closer to home than you perhaps originally planned :) I thank you for your sharing your photography and videos and I hope you will continue to do so in 2022.
Photography for me has been difficult in 2021. From riding the wave of creativity and ideas of 2020 in to 2021 quickly saw me burnout and crash with the worlds uncertainty. Frustrated with the lack of personal motivation, inspiration and energy, my photography and video output has taken a bit of a dive!
As such I have struggled greatly in trying to keep the photographic flame burning. I think this reflected no more so in the limited number of images I have posted in 2021 and even less videos :( I'm quite sure im not alone in feeling this way too.
Alas it's now the start of 2022, Thank you one all, for the continued support you have shown me throughout 2021! As such I forced myself out of the house armed with a single Vintage SMC Pentax 135mm Prime lens with the hopes of embracing the new year and kick starting my photography and videography mojo I hope you enjoy the ramble and results.
Until the next video, take care all
Geoff.

Join me as I discover a secret woodland filled with Bluebells in full spring bloom. Awash with colour the bluebell woods made for a perfect opportunity for some woodland macro photography with my trusty Pentax K1 and the 100mm Macro lens and his new friend the Samyang 135mm f2.0 which allowed me to capture the various blue hues and colours of this renowned little woodland flower.
Steeped in folklore and tradition (Bluebells) this bluebell wood is nestled in the heart of Worcestershire, and a short hike off the beaten track I stumbled upon the Bluebells hidden from sight deep within a corner of the wood If truth be told I could smell them before I spotted them. The sweet scented Bluebells mixing with the other woodland flowers like wild garlic was intoxicating and was unmistakable
Bluebells in woodlands are one of the finest joys of woodland macro photography for me, but they are tricky subjects to photograph. The often dappled light in woodlands brings with it a range of challenges. These challenges range from shutter speed and exposure time issues to considerations for depth of field and lens focal length, along side problems with contrast and colour. With a little practise and working with the woodland you can produce some outstanding woodland macro images.
For me photographing the bluebells at ground level always produces some very interesting and pleasing results. Using a longer focal length lens like the Samyang 135mm of the Pentax 100mm Macro lens both which have very wide working apertures allows for subject isolation that suits my style of soft ethereal macro photography.
When the dappled light of the sunrise works with you by spilling across the tops of the bluebell flowers, It can help produce some very soft and ethereal macro woodland photographs often allowing detailed close-up shots of individual bluebell stems or bluebell flower heads in hues of Blues, Purples and Mauve
I hope you enjoy the images produced and I look forward to reading your comments.
Did you know....
The bluebell has many names: English bluebell, wild hyacinth, wood bell, bell bottle, Cuckoo’s Boots, Wood Hyacinth, Lady’s Nightcap and Witches’ Thimbles, Hyacinthoides non-scripta
It is against the law to intentionally pick, uproot or destroy bluebells
If you plant bluebells, you should make sure it's the English bluebell, not the Spanish version. This is a more vigorous plant and could out-compete our delicate native flower
Almost half the world's bluebells are found in the UK, they’re relatively rare in the rest of the world
Bluebell colonies take a long time to establish - around 5-7 years from seed to flower.
Bluebells can take years to recover after footfall damage. If a bluebell’s leaves are crushed, they die back from lack of food as the leav

In this video I visit Titterstone Clee Hill in Shropshire to photograph a sunset dipping over the majestic landscape that borders Wales to the west and the English counties of Cheshire to the north, Staffordshire to the east, Worcestershire to the southeast, and Herefordshire to the south.
The plan was simple photograph and capture the late evening sunset colours in the clouds as the setting sun dipped below the horizon, which would hopefully set the sky a wash of oranges, pinks and purples. Once again my trusty Pentax K1 camera was matched with the Samyang 24 mm F1.4 and the diminutive Pentax Smc - DA 35 mm F2.4 AL (which is fast becoming one of my favourite lenses)
If that wasn't enough I also wanted to make best use of my time on top of the hill to photograph the landscape and radomes in the blue hour; an opportunity to photograph the early evening landscape, in the cool blues using the DJI Mavic Air 2 drone to do some aerial photography, revealing details and textures that easily go amiss when from standard perspective.
Waiting around for a few hours more I then planned on filming myself photographing the night sky and milky way, by doing some astrophotography over the tops of the National Air Traffic Services (NATS) radomes using my Pentax K1 and duo of lenses, the Samyang 24 mm F1.4 and the Pentax Smc - DA 35 mm F2.4 AL . However producing the video content for this was a challenge and the absence of light made it impossible to really show you how I had my scene composed and my camera setup. So unfortunately the video and story telling was limited in this part, but still, the resulting images taken on the night once I got home and processed them, produced some very pleasing wide field landscape astrophotography photographs. I hope you like them as much as I do.
The photographic opportunities and views from the top of Clee hill and the wider area of outstanding natural beauty are some of the best in the Midlands and the area is quite often overlooked by photographers in favour in my iconic locations, its hilly landscapes makes for some fabolous landscape photography from the early mists of Autumn to the snow drifts of Winter to the breathtaking sunrises of Spring and Summer and landscape photographers dream.
The hills that make up the landscape and the remoteness away from light-polluted cities means the skies above are amazingly dark. Views of the Milky Way from this region are fabulous on Moonless nights. There are also a number of publicly accessible Dark Sky Discovery Sites so camera like the Pentax K1 with it astro tracer functionality or for users of the popular Move Shoot Move systems are spoilt for choice for wide angle astrophotography landscapes.

Join me as I search for Bluebells to photograph at Tiddesley Wood nr Pershore in Worcestershire, UK. On this adventure I share tips on polorisers and composition considerations when trying to photograph Britain's favourite wild flowers.
The bluebell is one of the ‘indicator species‘ of ancient woodland, meaning woods that have been in existence since at least 1600; the Woodland Trust considers that some bluebells may even mark remnants of the original wild wood that covered Britain after the last Ice Age.
Filmed entirely on a Google Pixel 2 XL this is my second vlog to date and I hope you enjoy. Lots of things to learn, and I hope my video production will continue to improve.

With the lock-down restrictions being lifted somewhat I headed for a local woodland this week to explore a new location and to try and get a some woodland details photographed. With most of the leaves and woodland flowers now in full bloom I look for those intimate details on the woodland and make use of the lush woodland growth at this time of year.
The conditions were breezy and very overcast, the latter however makes for perfect lighting when photographing flowers and reflective subjects as the grey overcast skies act as a natural soft-box reducing the harsh and strong contrast light especially around mid morning and the afternoon for this particular adventure.
If you like the image produced I would be delighted if you would like to leave thumbs up and a comment and if you enjoy my photography why not subscribe and hit the bell icon to be notified on my next upload.

Astrophotography & Landscape Photography Rhossili Bay
Join me on a little photography adventure as I shoot some Milky Way & Galactic core astrophotography and landscape photography at Rhossili Bay Nr Swansea in Wales
Leaving Worcester at 22:00 destined for Rhossili Bay In Wales 3 hours later, planned arrival time 01:00 the idea was to shoot the Milkyway and the Galatic core and photograph through to sunrise and breakfast
This was my second all nighter in 7 days without sleep so was feeling particularly tied. I must appologies, I was also suffering from hayfever, never a good combination for recording video.
I hope you enjoy as I stumble on my words and sniffle my way through explaining my location, various compositions and provide my viewers such joys as focus stacking and blending images.
