This video is slightly all over the place: it has been recorded earlier this year and I didn't know yet how much footage I would need, so it's not quite as coherent as I would have liked. Learning curve and such.
You might remember my summer of 2020 project: the oil change in my tractor that got slightly out of hand? Well, I tried to finish up the job, as the annual inspection is closing in on me again. But much to my dismay, when I wanted to address the valve issue, I found out that I had a more pressing issue with the head gasket!
Again, what started as a rather "simple" repair ended up in a series of rabbit holes. Sheesh!

A little teaser I whipped together right after our first shooting day. Hope to have the filming done soon and the next episode up and available by early November... keep your fingers crossed!

Finally - after quite some time of teasing, here's the camera restoration episode. It features a Praktica FX2 - a 35mm film camera, intruduced by an East Germany company in 1956. Which means that it is alomost as old as my parents....
I did take it apart as far as I could without removing any rivets and I also kept the actual glass of the lens together. The lens has multiple layers (groups) that need to be properly aligned to each other. I don't have the means to adjust that. I also had to be very careful about the springs, at least one of them broke and I had to bend it back into shape. Still works, despite missing a turn of the coil.
Note. The video is mostly made to illustrate the process and might be too fast for reference. If you have a concrete question, comment and ask! I have about 20 hours of footage... slightly too long for a YouTube upload :)

This is another one of my Tinkering with Atkelar videos! Yay!
The video at hand is about the setup and first tryout of my woodturning lathe. I always wanted one of those, it makes several tasks so much easier if not possible to begin with!
As you might have realized by now, I try to keep these in certain categories: Restorations, Builds and now "Workshop Projects".
I hope that these title additions make it easier to navigate and eventually will form individual playlists.
I may have a fourth category - "Repairs" - for anything that is not a restoration, either because it is too new or it is more of a "can you get this working for me?" request.
On the technical side, I did use a new (used) camera for some but not all of the shots, but had improved lightning all over. Feedback welcome as usual!

Disclaimer: most of the footage has been shot over two years ago and might seem a bit odd here since it predates the whole "tinkering" series.
I also had some recording issues, mostly while building the cyclone, and so I could not show all the details I would have loved to show... Sorry for that, but I think my video footage backlog still is worth making the odd video.
The mentioned video that inspired the cyclone can be found here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z-xhYnWDCd0
I am using an old shed for a workshop, so once I'm done with all the backlog I created, the woodworking things should be more summer-y and anything else more winter-y since I cannot heat that place to a comfortable temperature. You can see the summer/winter footage by the length of my work clothes sleeves :)
I am not affiliated with any of the companies shown in the video. It's just generally my price range of hobby equipment that was available in my area when I needed it first.
