At this point it should be no surprise that solid state drives are faster than the now old school hard disk drives... but perhaps you're not convinced on how much faster they can be and how it can improve system responsiveness, even when using cheap SSD's.
This test pits Fedora 35 against Fedora 35 using Virtualbox 6.1 running on a stressed out pc. They both have 4 CPU's assigned and both have 4Gb of memory allocated. I ran and recorded the HDD one first so that if there was anything to be gained by running first it would get it. I ran the SSD one right after the HDD one had finished. These are the results. Starting up, logging in and shutting down once at a usable desktop.
Taking a look at the UKUI desktop for Linux (https://www.ukui.org/) created by Ubuntu Kylin team but this is running a test release of Manjaro featuring this UKUI desktop environment.
It looks like it is designed to look and feel a lot like Window 7 and as such could mean new Linux users are already somewhat familiar with the user interface and this lessens the learning curve required. It seems like they are doing a big rebuild of the UKUI code to base it on Qt. From my testing it ran pretty good on the live session, but had issues and wouldn't function well once installed.
NOTE: This was a pre-release preview version, so issues were expected.
I am a fan of Fedora. I've used it ever since it was a thing... before the days of Fedora Core even. I distro-hop a lot but Fedora has always been one I come back to. So, when the beta of 33 was announced I thought I'd see what was happening with it. In some ways it's good to see it hasn't changed, but how I wish they would ditch the awful Gnome software and come up with something decent like so many other distros have.
I know they like to be vanilla but it's just awful... hence why most other distros don't use it.
If you want to checkout the stable or beta of the Fedora Linux distro you can find it here: https://getfedora.org/
Singing a sea shanty while walking across the Fortnite map. I came fifth even, although I had some unexpected help.

I've seen a lot about Dark Souls lately which is to be expected with Elden Ring in the works, so I decided it was time to record an attempt at playing it. Given that I'm very much a casual gamer and not used to anything of this difficulty, I'm sure it will be frustrating as hell. We'll see how far I can get before rage quitting and never playing it again shall we.
From what I've heard of it, I should be pulling what's left of my hair out in no time. If you'd like to contribute to helping me make more content you can always support the content here, send tips and or considering buying me a coffee. ( https://www.buymeacoffee.com/lonelyfootpad ) I'm gonna need a coffee after playing this I think.
