FNIRSI sent me some bits - so I thought I'd solder up some more boards from https://www.PCBWay.com/?from=atomic
We're testing out a new USB soldering iron and a 3in1 Oscilloscope. Both these items came from FNIRSI who seem to be doing a lot of interesting things.
You can get the 3in1 Oscilloscope here - https://s.click.aliexpress.com/e/_DFWgn7h
And the soldering iron here - https://s.click.aliexpress.com/e/_DkUNMlD

For my moon lamp, I'm designing a custom PCB for an ESP32 that will be manufactured and assembled by JLPCB.
The PCB has now been manufactured and you can see the final assembly video where we solder the ESP32 module, the header pins and screw terminals: https://youtu.be/Pq9HckRTRO4
In this video, we take the schematic that we designed in the previous video, lay it out using EasyEDA and send it off for manufacture by JLPCB.

I've been playing around with one of these E-Paper displays. I've got the LILYGO 2.7" ePaper Plus Module . The classic thing that people seem to do is get a weather display up and running - so I thought I would do the same.
Thanks to PCBWay for sponsoring this video, PCBWay offer PCB Production, CNC and 3D Printing, PCB Assembly and much much more. You can find their details here: https://www.pcbway.com/
There's a really nice library on GitHub by G6EJD that everyone seems is using. This already has support for a whole bunch of ePaper displays including the Waveshare 2.7 inch display which is the one that is used on the LILYGO board I have.
https://github.com/G6EJD/ESP32-e-Paper-Weather-Display
Most of the instructions are around using the Arduino IDE but as regular viewers will know I'm much happier using PlatformIO, so we'll get it up and running there.
You can find my repo here: https://github.com/atomic14/ESP32-E-Paper-Weather
And the demo code from LILYGO here: https://github.com/LilyGO/TTGO-T5S-Epaper
You can order the module I'm using here: https://s.click.aliexpress.com/e/_AZRYxj

We're doing a deep dive into deep sleep! Thanks to PCB Way for sponsoring the videos - www.pcbway.com
The ESP32 e-Paper weather display lasted exactly 2 months on its 1000mAh battery. It achieves this by spending most of its time in deep sleep, only waking up every 30 minutes to get a fresh forecast and update the display.
We're going to look at:
[0:00] Intro
[1:33] How to get into deep sleep
[1:42] Waking up by using a timer
[2:56] Waking up by GPIO pins (single and multiple)
[5:26] Waking up with the touch sensors
[6:13] How to know why you were woken up?
[7:37] How to persist state during deep sleep?
[8:24] How much current do we use in deep sleep?
It's pretty interesting stuff and opens up some great possibilities.
Here's a link to one of @Andreas Spiess videos (the guy with the Swiss accent) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ajt7vtgKNNM he's got a bunch more videos measuring different ESP32 boards - definitely worth having a watch.

As always we're sponsors by https://PCBWay.com. I saw a demo of this mad contraption, and I just had to buy one - it's a spinning LED fan. It's completely mad.
We'll try it out and then take it apart to see what makes it tick. It's actually really cool.
It's amazing what you can do with persistence of vision. The camera really doesn't do this justice.
I got mine off AliExpress from here (affiliate link): https://s.click.aliexpress.com/e/_AMf4jp but there are plenty of others available. Just search for "LED fan" on AliExpress.
0:00 Unboxing
0:10 Camera fail
0:17 Trying it out
1:15 Be careful!
1:40 Tear down part 1 - the base
3:15 Tear down part 2 - the top
4:24 PWM modulation?
4:41 Final thoughts

I've been asked to help someone fix a small component that got broken during an office move. I think the end result comes out better than the original!
It's a fairly simple job, model a small component in Fusion 360 and then 3D Print it.
In this video, I show you how to model a simple object in Fusion 360 parametrically so that it can be easily changed and updated if it doesn't fit once it's been 3D Printed.

As always we're sponsored by http://PCBWay.com. They provided the excellent PCBs used in this video.
Well, I messed up, my latest order of PCBs completely. As a famous engineer once said, "I can't defy the laws of physics!".
I'll go into what went wrong and since I've ended up with a bunch of boards that I can't really use I've done a bit of experimenting with a vacuum stencil holder and the MHP30 hotplate. It's pretty fun stuff.
You can pick up the MHP30 here: https://s.click.aliexpress.com/e/_Aga3xT
You can watch @Unexpected Maker show off his vacuum stencil box here: https://youtu.be/5iX61nD94cg
