Plenti CMS Devlog (ep 22): Blueprint Reset
This is a Dev Vlog series where Plentico (https://plenti.co) maintainers work on the git-backed CMS for the Plenti project (https://github.com/plentico/plenti). We are building in public, so feel free to watch along, ask questions, or even contribute if you're so inclined.
In this video we discuss some CMS updates that Jesse made to improve the workflow of publishing new content to a Plenti website:
- Checking if filename exists before creating new content
- If filename already exists, take user there to edit that existing content
- Deep clone blueprint when creating new page so the content defaults get reset each time a user tries to create new content of that type
- Use hash routes when adding new pages so a user can do a hard refresh on the page and avoid receiving a 404 error
- Clear filename before showing "Add content" modal

There is a functional parameter editor in addition to the new node editor for folks who like to add effects the familiar old way. This video goes over a refactor of the sitewide plenti.json configuration file to add context about the GitLab repo we're writing back to. Jesse also refactored the commit workflow so when you submit changes it disables the button and gives you a status update. He then demonstrates pulling this change locally so we can see it, but this could just as easily kick off a CI process and rebuild the site. This week we go through the OAuth workflow code that has been added to a base Plenti project to show how the requestAccessToken() function has been adjusted to complete the login process. Previously we were able to run requestAuthCode() but were failing to prove our key and get an access token, so we adjusted our key generator to remove characters that GitLab would not accept and that seems to have resolved the issue.

It takes a new approach by cutting out bundlers, hitting the compiler directly in V8, and building scaffolding in Go to give an extremely fast and consistent developer experience. We'll go over how the data source, content structure, layout, routing, and hydration are all connected to work out-of-the-box. You don't need any tools or configuration to get started — NodeJS and NPM are optional.
