Went out to check on the chickens and heard water rushing out of one of the Vertical Nipples. These nipples will occasionally fail, but I discovered a way to tell when they are about to go. The horizontal nipples will also fail as well, launching the metal nipple and spring several feet when they go. There are no springs in the vertical nipples, just a couple of stems and a ball bearing which are held in by a metal color pressed into the plastic base. Regardless of which type, you want to make sure you find and pick up all the little metal bits after a failure. I also used this as an excuse to show the current state of the watering system which has been working great for almost 2 years. I switched to nipples from watering cups due to the amount of time spent cleaning out the cups, plus spastic roosters snapping off the cups causing me have to replace them and refill the entire system again.
