Are you curious to learn more about the world’s greatest banking collapses? From the 2008 financial crisis to the 1980s crash, come explore the top ten bank collapses that rocked economies around the globe. All Tens has you covered!

In this episode of All Tens, we’ll take a look at ten of the most devastating financial crises ever to hit the banking industry. From Lehman Brothers’ bankruptcy incident of 2008, to Long-Term Capital Management’s crash of 1998, get a comprehensive view of the surprising patterns and lessons we can learn from the banking industry’s biggest collapses.

Our first episode will look at the recent U.S. financial crisis of 2008 and its origins. We’ll review how the housing bubble of 2006 to 2007 set the stage for the collapse of companies such as Lehman Brothers, Bear Stearns, and Wachovia. We’ll then move on to the bank collapses from 2007 to 2009, including Washington Mutual’s bankruptcy and the emergency takeover of the British bank, HBOS by Lloyds Tsb.

Next, we’ll focus on the collapse of Long-Term Capital Management in 1998 and how it caused the Dow Jones index to drop 7%. We’ll talk about how government bailouts kept the panic in check and what the lessons learned from this collapse taught economists and regulators about risk management.

From there, we move on to the 1980s banking collapse. We’ll talk about how high interest rates and an oversized commercial real estate market created the conditions for the collapse of Continental Illinois, which caused further economic downturns.

Our seventh episode will take us back to the overheated economy of the late 1970s and the banking crisis in the U.K. We’ll look at how the almost-simultaneous crash of a number of banks led to an increased level of regulation within the U.K. banking system.

We’ll then make a stop in Japan, where the post-bubble crash of the early 2000s caused the fall of Yamaichi Securities and the biggest bank failure since World War II. From there, we’ll go to Iceland, and talk about how the collapse of Icesave in 2008 reverberated around the world.
