? 3D ARCHAEOLOGY #3 ⏰ BLOUP 1994
? 3D ARCHAEOLOGY 3 * BLOUP ⏰ 1994
In 1994, my first 3D animated short ‘Bloup’ was featured at the Japanese Visual Fantasy Festival as well as on the Siggraph official reel. Based on an original Intellectual Property it eventually morphed into the ‘Fair & Square’ ™ IP whose design & name are protected as a trademark in Canada via CIPO (Canadian Intellectual Property Office). FAIR / DESIGN OPIC: 1408495 * SQUARE / DESIGN OPIC: 1408496 * FAIR OPIC: 1408367 SQUARE OPIC: 1408194

Log Mar 25, 2014 / Just learned that Montreal's based SOFTIMAGE is dead ! Softimage died to help Max and Maya, says Autodesk.
Back in 95, I learned to use what was then lauded as the first artist oriented 3D software' and indeed it was. The launch coincided with the release of 'Donkey Kong Country' on SNES which for the first time used 3D based animated sprites as a video game character giving it that extra super duper cool look all visual artists craved by then.

I soon realized that 3D for cinema & video games where 2 very different beast & went on to create the first video game curriculum in the world. People were saying... 'What, you gonna teach them how to play ?'... I had to become an evangelist for the then only burgeoning Montreal scene and explain that it was in fact a brand new thing incorporating maths, science, programming, art, story telling & that new mysterious & magical ingredient... Interactivity !

Fast forward... There isn't a self respecting university that doesn't cover video games & countless 'video games schools' now offer what I had coined then as the 10th Art form in my 2 books on the subject !

2) Almanach du Jeu Vidéo

So here are, as a token eulogy, a few of the demos I produced & scored while I was director of the games department at NAD Center. I have great fond memories of the atmosphere there as we were inventing a negotiating a whole new paradigm with this revolutionary way of seeing & playing with visuals & story telling.

& You know what... With the ubiquity of the web, 3D printing & amazing real time 3D with physics and all bells & whistles as pushed along by Nvidia; I feel as excited today as then for we are indeed on the threshold of another cyber-revolution...
