How To Get Into Interplanetary Orbits Using The Least Amount Of Fuel In Kerbal Space Program
Shujintribble asked me some questions and I tried to answer them with some examples, specifically he wanted to know about minimizing the delta-v needed for those interplanetary transfers. And, the best way to use gravity assists from Kerbin's Mun to reduce fuel costs.
I think I need to do a version with more mathematics.....
I've been asked a lot about doing a RSS series, so I wanted to kick things off by showing just what's needed and how to install all the relevant parts using the CKAN mod manager.

Since I've been asked by a lot of people, and since I was busy last night, you can hear me speak about the history of Orbital Sciences, the soviet built engines and other things.

I had a rare opportunity to actually go into Meteor Crater (http://meteorcrater.com/) with scientists from the B612 Foundation and view this amazing structure from the inside. Meteor Crater in Arizona is the best example of an impact crater on Earth, there are larger and younger craters but none are so well preserved. As such it remains an important scientific site and access is extremely limited.
There is a great public visitor center which has some great exhibits, crater viewing and guided tours of the crater rim if you are a space fan then this is a unique location http://meteorcrater.com/
The B612 Foundation is a non-Profit organization working in the field of asteroid defense, if you enjoyed this I urge you to donate to B612 https://b612foundation.org/
This was recorded during a short rest break at the bottom, I had one take and adlibbed the script from memory, but I do make a couple of mistakes. In particular when talking about the velocity of the impactor I should have said miles per second instead of kilometers per second.
The camera is a Ricoh Theta S which uses a pair of fish eye lenses to take a full 360 degree video, the resolution is sadly quite low, but I felt that being surrounded on all sides by the crater walls represented a unique setting where the sacrifice was worth it.

Using realism overhaul I see just how easy it is to control the descent of a Dragon 2 capsule and land it using the Super Draco thrusters.
Then, as a nod for 'May The 4th, the viewers asked me to build a B-Wing from Star Wars.

The title says it all, a flash was seen on the moon just after the onset of totality, it was seen by multiple cameras in different locations and so is almost certainly the flash of a space rock hitting the moon.
Amateurs have already tried to locate the impact sites so when the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter overflys the location again it can look for new impact craters.
Find more videos of impact flashes at the MIDAS youtube channel.

As far as I can tell the Star Spangled Banner is the only national anthem that includes rockets. July 4th seems like the perfect day to talk about these 200 year old rockets.

Knee deep in the mid game we have grand plans that involve building more ships, colonizing more planets and genetically engineering our population.

Now it's time to Dock, a process which is complicated, frustrating but ultimately very satisfying. After that we're off to the Mun!
