Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel 4 - Romancing Laura (Sword-Crossed Lovers)
Should you choose to romance Laura, here are the scenes you will see. We start things off with a training segment on Bryonia, then we return to Bryonia, and finish on the beach. ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=txe-ieOBc20
One of my anticipated games of the year is about to hit, and we waste no time tackling the first case. This is the version without live commentary, but if you want to hear me talk and burst out laughing at times, there is a version like that for you too.
The MC from the first game returns here to investigate a school being haunted by a spirit known as the Departed. In this first case, we are going to face a spirit known as Hanako who lashes out at people who enter her domain. Luckily, she is fairly easy to appease, so she makes for a decent tutorial even if there is very little room for error. Unlike the previous games, I do not know if there is a way to botch the exorcism that leads to the demise of your partners.
I am not sold on Hanako being the first ghost as similar to Taro back in NG, I have a moment where the "scare" backfires horribly and I have to break the video so I can stop laughing. While I understand that Hanako most likely hung herself using a garden hose, it does not make for good horror material. Since we are dealing with a "pianist" victim for the first case, I was wondering if there would be piano wires or something instead.
The major changes from this game compared to the others has to do with navigation and the "health" resource that you use to do things. I am still on the fence about how you navigate, but the health can help you know how many turns you have left and may give you some room in the event you want to try something random during the exorcism.
Anyway, I am dropping everything to cover this game as I did not realize it came out this early. Better yet, I did get this copy 2 days before street date, so hopefully I can knock out another case to help people decide whether or not they want to pick this game up for themselves. Otherwise, what better way to celebrate Valentine's Day than with a new horror game?

This is one of the simpler unlocks, but it can take a little while as you have to play four games minimum to get it. Simply have Lady Liberty deal the KO to each of the Prime core game villains. I show the Omega game to make up for Johnny Rocket's unlock, but I splice in the remaining games in the interest of conserving time. If you want to see them, I can't do anything for Argo, but the others...

We finally reach the original demo. Sadly, I don't know what Roland seriously expected by going to the castle when it is under assault. We basically peak in on the throne room, somehow not realize prior to this that everything has gone to hell, then try to leave, essentially rendering everything done prior to this as meaningless. The writing here has me a little puzzled to be honest.
As for the scenario itself, we need to get out of the castle, which involves crossing the drawbridge. I wasn't sure if the enemies infinitely spawn or not, but in hindsight, without any ranged units in the spawning waves, we probably could have gone to lower ground and tried to set up a kill zone to farm everything. Enemies do drop crafting materials, so there is a little merit to doing it, even if the number of materials needed for later upgrades gets absurdly high.
I think it might be possible to get through this while saving Maxwell in combat by leaving the healer and some support units with him. However, I didn't want the video to drag too much, so I opted to just do things the way the game wanted. Sadly, I could have gotten at least one more kill before everything ended, but it just wasn't meant to be.

We return to the southern lands to make our way to the other human settlement. On the way there, we are able to find some beastkin people by a fire who happen to make up the Hunter's Guild. Sadly, we're still a little too early to get extra licenses, but we're able to give someone access to the Hunter skillset.
From there, we reach the other settlement and set about looting the place. There are a few new sidequests, and if you have some money burning a hole in your pocket, you can buy the ship using Partitio's Scent of Commerce, but I have other things to buy and it is too early to safely sail.

The chapter started with a letter from Yin to Ilya, and now we get to meet Yin face-to-mask. Upon concluding that Yin did not send the letter, the SSS has to go to the Arc en Ciel preview performance and find out what the true intent behind the original letter was. In the process, we uncover an assassination attempt...
Just to be clear during the Arc en Ciel performance, there are large sections where I don't say anything as I am doing some stuff on the side. I edited out the sections where I actually had to stop for an excessively long period, so you will hear the music change at the spliced sections. When I was doing this section, I thought it was going to be much shorter than it actually is and ran over my personal time limit. Just wanted to give a heads up in the event some of the dialogue windows stay up for a little long as I cannot always hear them with other stuff going on at that moment.

We have to make our way to another location to get the next of Ochette's summons, and this is a big one. On the way, we happen to stumble across the Merchant Guild and can pick up the basic license and shell out for one more. Sadly, that final one costs a pretty penny and we will need to hold off for quite awhile before we can get that as there is quite a bit more we need before that.
Upon getting to the village, we get started with looting the place, and I want to comment about the little girl on the east side. As of my uploading this, we still have not found a purpose for her. She may be an unfinished asset or possibly something that broke in the localization process, but I have not heard of her doing anything different in other regions. We can try revisiting her later to see if maybe some sidequest triggers something, but otherwise people wonder about her and sadly, we don't have any definite answers yet on what exactly is going on. Hopefully the simple answer is that she is simply a child ghost or something meant to mess with players by being here.

While discussing some business about the happenings in Crossbell, we are notified by Cecille that Arios has taken KeA. Zeit disappeared too, but he can handle himself, so there is no need to worry. Pursuing Arios takes us to Michelam Wonderland and there are archaisms abound. Forcing our way through them, we get to fight an optional battle here against Arios himself. You're not really expected to win this, but we cannot be stopped and must take the Divine Blade to task as Crois's plan unfurls.

This is probably the shortest mission of the DLC and quite possibly one of the shortest missions in the game. The enemy has a lot of aircraft, and we just need to destroy a certain value of units to bring it to a close. Basically, Snipers can kill the helicopters for you while also picking off infantry, making them twice as valuable as normal. Combine that with Kohaku's mobility perks, and you can take the enemy by storm with a proper power drop.

Unless you did the Green Earth campaign with Sami like I did, this is the last time you will see Eagle (and this is also the final map with Sami). He is present here to help us against an overwhelming force, and depending on how erratic his AI is for you, this mission can be a breeze or agony.
Since we are outgunned, I want Sami here. We can set up a bottleneck and poke things with indirect fire, which Max cannot do. Then her transport units are more mobile than the others, which Andy cannot do. The goal here is to cap the enemy HQ since it would take forever to run the enemy ships out of fuel.
With this out of the way, we can now confront the mastermind behind everything that has happened. Who can this villain possibly be?
