The Minister of Information , Communication Technology and National guidance Dr. Cris Baryomunsi has challenged the incoming 6th Governing Council members of the Uganda Institute of Information and Communication Technology Nakawa to ensure that the Institute into a regional Centre of excellence in as far as ICT practical skills training in the region is concerned.
The Minister was officiating at the inauguration of the 6th Governing Council of the institute, at Mestil Hotel in Kampala.
The Minister also revealed plans of allocating more funding to the Institute, so as to enable it fulfill its mandate
The 6TH Governing Council is chaired by Mr. Dean Munene, from the Uganda ICT Association, replacing Eng. Edward Kasule Musisi, who has been chairing the 5th Council.
On behalf of the Institute Management,the Principal Dr. Fredrick Kitoogo and Eng . Christine Mugimba ,on behalf of UCC , pledged maximum cooperation and team work.
Government through the Ministry of ICT and National Guidance and Uganda Communications Commission, has disclosed intentions of upgrading the Nakawa based Uganda Information and Communication Technology Institute into a national and regional Centre of excellence in offering practical skills to students in line with the demands of the job market.

Parliament has faulted the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Cooperatives Geraldine Ssali for flouting procurement guidelines which caused irregularities in financial management at the ministry.
Geraldine Ssali appeared before the trade and tourism committee of parliament and in her defense says there was need for continuity of business and she also had limited staff which forced her to alter the procurement process.
